Under the project, QR codes will be installed across all PWD-managed roads, allowing citizens to access detailed information about a road by simply scanning the code with their mobile phones.The initiative will also enable people to report road-related issues directly through the same platform.WHAT IS THE 'KNOW YOUR ROAD' PROJECT?The Public Works Department (PWD) has completed most of the groundwork for the project and is preparing for its formal launch.According to Delhi PWD Minister Pravesh Verma, every PWD road in the capital will have a QR code installed at prominent locations, making it easy for commuters and pedestrians to scan and access information. WHAT INFORMATION WILL THE QR CODE PROVIDE?Once scanned, the QR code will display detailed information about the road, including:Road nameRoad lengthDate of constructionDate of the last repairAgency responsible for maintenanceName and contact details of the Executive Engineer and other responsible officialsThe aim is to make information related to road construction and maintenance easily available to the public. Know moreCITIZENS CAN REPORT ROAD PROBLEMSThe QR code system will also allow citizens to lodge complaints about road-related issues such as potholes, damaged road surfaces, waterlogging and other maintenance concerns.PWD believes this feature will improve the monitoring of complaints and help ensure quicker resolution by making the process more transparent and accountable.2,500 QR CODES TO COVER 1,400 KM ROAD NETWORKAs part of the project, around 2,500 QR codes will be installed across Delhi's 1,400-km PWD road network. The codes will be placed at key locations so that road users can easily scan them whenever required.Officials say the initiative is expected to improve public participation in road maintenance while ensuring that the departments and officers responsible for upkeep remain accountable.
