(Photo: Windy)Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are set for another spell of moderate to heavy rainfall on Monday as the southwest monsoon remains active, with the monsoon axis currently passing directly over the region.Weather experts have forecast widespread thunderstorms beginning around midday, while western Uttar Pradesh has been placed on alert for more intense downpours.According to the latest weather update, thunderstorm development is expected to begin over Delhi-NCR in the afternoon, with the most active phase likely between 12:30 pm and 7:00 pm. Meteorologists expect 40-60% geographical coverage across Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Ghaziabad, meaning a significant portion of the region is likely to experience rain, although not every locality will receive the same intensity.Individual thunderstorms are expected to last 30 minutes to two hours over any given location, bringing rainfall accumulations ranging from 20 mm to 75 mm. Areas receiving more than 50 mm of rain are likely to witness waterlogging, particularly in low-lying neighbourhoods and stretches with poor drainage. The current weather pattern is being driven by the monsoon trough, or monsoon axis, shifting northward over Delhi-NCR. Such positioning enhances moisture convergence and promotes the rapid development of towering thunderclouds capable of producing heavy showers, lightning and gusty winds.While Delhi is expected to receive widespread rainfall, western Uttar Pradesh is likely to bear the brunt of the active monsoon conditions, with heavier thunderstorms forecast across several districts.The region could witness more intense and widespread rainfall than the national capital.Neighbouring Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh are also expected to receive light to moderate showers on August 3, although rainfall coverage there is forecast to be lower than over Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh.The fresh spell of rain is expected to provide relief from humid conditions but could also disrupt traffic during the afternoon and evening rush hours.
