It’s not Days Gone 2, stop asking (Sony) Sony already has a new God Of War and Until Dawn 2 lined up as 2027 PlayStation 5 exclusives, but a new report says you can expect another from the Days Gone team. With Sony’s first party studios being put onto long gestating live service projects, only for Sony to cancel most of them and leave those studios needing to start anew, it’s no wonder the company’s output has been so sporadic this generation. Some studios, like Shadow Of The Colossus remake maker Bluepoint Games, were completely shut down, as a result of Sony’s ill-judged gamble, but Days Gone developer Bend Studio is still going, despite not having released a new game since 2019. Between Sony’s other studio shutdowns and layoffs this year, Bend seemed another likely victim for the chopping block, but it appears to have weathered the worst of it, as it’s claimed the studio will finally announce a new project in 2027 and maybe even release it then too. As a reminder, Bend was initially working on some kind of live service shooter unconnected to Days Gone, only for it to be cancelled alongside Bluepoint’s God Of War live service spin-off last year. A job listing from earlier this year confirmed that Bend is now developing a ‘high-profile AAA console title,’ but nothing hinted to its identity beyond it potentially having a realistic aesthetic. According to MP1st, which spoke with those familiar with Bend’s plans, the project is some kind of third person game with co-op elements (which makes it sound like it can be played solo), but it’s explicitly not a live service game. Given Bend’s track record on Days Gone, the Syphon Filter series, and spin-offs of Uncharted and Resistance, it seems safe to assume that this new project is another third person shooter. MP1st also says it’s not a Days Gone sequel or spin-off, although it couldn’t confirm if it’s an original IP or not. According to insider reports, Bend was previously tasked with working on a new Uncharted under Naughty Dog’s supervision, but that project never went anywhere. If this new game also isn’t Uncharted then presumably any new title will have to come from original creator Naughty Dog… which is exactly what was rumoured last month. Resistance, meanwhile, is an Insomniac series and hasn’t been touched in years. Syphon Filter is Bend’s own creation but that hasn’t had a new entry since 2007 and there’s been little demand for a reboot or revival compared to other PlayStation properties like Ape Escape. As such, we’d expect Bend’s next game to be wholly original, but it could very well be made from the bones of the cancelled live service game, which sounded like it was going to be a realistic military shooter and would’ve ‘[built] upon the open world systems of Days Gone.’ Considering the game is also rumoured to launch next year, and is said to be ‘much further along in development’ than some might expect, it certainly sounds like Bend has reworked the live service project rather than started completely from scratch. If it does come out next year, then 2027 could wind up being one of Sony’s strongest years for exclusives this generation. It already has Until Dawn 2 scheduled for January, followed by God Of War Laufey in February. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is also claimed to be aiming for a 2027 release, with Naughty Dog promising a much-needed update next year. And although they’re not first party releases, and will come to PC too, Sony is publishing adventure game sequel Kena: Scars Of Kosmora and Chinese action game Daba: Land Of Water Scar. However, 2027 marks the final year of physical first party PlayStation games, as the company plans to go all-digital in 2028. No more physical PlayStation 5 games after 2027, which means the PlayStation 6 may not come with a disc drive at all (Sony) Email gamecentral@metro.co.uk, leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter.
