The actor is set to reunite with a major Doctor Who star for the return of Hulu's hit, six-season mystery series, Only Murders in the Building. Tennant was previously announced for the cast of Only Murders in the Building season 6, set to have an undisclosed recurring role in the upcoming batch of episodes. This comes as the show's new season moves to London for one of the biggest mysteries its core trio (played by Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez) have ever encountered. Tennant previously played the Tenth and Fourteenth Doctors on Doctor Who. Now, according to Deadline, Peter Capaldi, who played the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who, has been cast in a recurring role for Only Murders in the Building season 6. While his role is also undisclosed, it unites him and Tennant following their time on the sci-fi series, putting both Doctors in the same show together. Jodie Whittaker, who played the Thirteenth Doctor and first female Doctor, also has a recurring role in the Hulu mystery series. This will unite all three Doctor Who stars onscreen together for the very first time. The Doctor Who actors have never shared the screen together all at once, despite having such vital roles in the sci-fi show. Tennant's Tenth Doctor briefly teamed up with the Twelfth Doctor in the 2013 episode "The Day of the Doctor," but Capaldi himself didn't appear until the following episode when Matt Smith's Eleventh Doctor regenerated. The only time Capaldi's Twelfth and Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor share the screen is when the former regenerates into the latter, the same going for Whittaker's Thirteenth and Tennant's Fourteenth. This will be the actors' first big series with one another. The story of season 6 follows the end of Only Murders in the Building season 5, when true-crime podcast host Cinda Canning (Tina Fey) is murdered. As has already been confirmed, their investigation will take them to London, where they'll meet a whole host of characters played by newcomer actors, including Tennant, Capaldi, and Whittaker. Season 6 began filming in May 2026, two months later than the usual March filming start window. This means the upcoming episodes may not be out until after the show's typical early fall release window. In addition to the former Doctor Who stars, additional recurring cast confirmed for season 6 include Jennifer Saunders, Martin Freeman, Simone Ashley, Sean Teale, Amar Chadha-Patel, Rhea Norwood, Lesley Nicol, Jane Horrocks, Matthew Beard, Sharon Horgan, Geri Halliwell, Jamie Demetriou, Anjana Vasan, Derek Jacobi, Nicola Coughlan, Jim Broadbent, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis, Kathryn Hunter, and Olivia Colman. All actors involved have undisclosed roles, making it uncertain who their characters are and what to expect from their involvement. With production on season 6 ongoing, it's unclear when Only Murders in the Building will reveal the roles of its Doctor Who stars. However, the show appears poised to use them in important ways as the plot develops, with Cinda's murder hanging over the events of the show.
