Further details on the extent of damage or any casualties are awaited.The incident comes days after a devastating flash flood struck Nepal, where a glacial collapse near the China border triggered a massive surge of water and debris through the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli river systems. The disaster has killed at least 788 people in Nepal, while 2,500 remain missing, according to the latest figures from Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.The floods also swept away homes, roads and bridges and severely damaged infrastructure in several districts. The disaster has also raised concerns in India, particularly in areas downstream of Nepal. In Uttar Pradesh, the rising Narayani-Gandak has put villages in flood-prone areas on alert, while several bodies have been recovered from the Gandak river in Maharajganj and Kushinagar after being swept downstream from Nepal.Bihar is also facing heightened flood concerns as water levels in the Ganga, Gandak, Kosi and Burhi Gandak rivers have risen following heavy rainfall in Nepal. The latest Bihar flood monitoring data shows the Burhi Gandak at Khagaria, the Gandak at Dumariaghat and the Punpun at Sripalpur flowing above danger levels, while the Ganga at Sahibganj is also above the danger mark. The India Meteorological Department has meanwhile warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country.
