TOPLINEHigher childhood inductive reasoning at the age of 13 years was independently associated with a lower risk for dementia over more than six decades of follow-up. Each cardiovascular outcome — individually and as a composite — was associated with a twofold higher risk for dementia (HR, 2.00), and diabetes was associated with a more than twofold higher risk (HR, 2.13).After adjustment for CVD, diabetes, and major somatic morbidity, the association between childhood inductive reasoning and the risk for dementia was modestly attenuated (HRs ranged from 0.84 to 0.86 across models).
