Chaos on major motorway as lorry fire shuts lanes and drivers stuck in hour-long delays

A LORRY has caught fire on a major motorway causing traffic to grind to a halt. The M25 has been closed off in the anticlockwise direction between J6 and J5 in Kent, with hour-long delays expected and tailbacks reaching J8. Local lanes are also reportedly experiencing congestion as motorists reroute. A fire brigade has been called to the scene and is currently tackling the blaze. The fire is understood to be located in the cargo hold of the lorry. It follows another closure on the M23 in Surrey in the northbound direction between J9 and J9a this afternoon. Emergency services were called to tackle a van fire. Delays of more than 10 minutes and one mile of congestion were reported. Most read in The Sun
