British steakhouse chain to shut all 20 restaurants this week – is one going near you?

A BRITISH steakhouse chain will shut all 20 of its restaurants for good this week in a huge blow to fans. It comes as part of a huge restructuring which will see a number of popular eateries vanish forever. The news will come as a blow to fans of the diner Credit: Getty The chains are set to vanish for good come September 3 Whitbread is closing all 20 of its Bar + Block chains this Thursday, September 3. The news has left many fans of the chain heartbroken, with one sharing: “They do the best Sunday lunch here. This kicks off a string of closures across the month of September, which will see a total of 261 restaurants shutter for good. Most read in Money That includes the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre brands, set to shut on September 10 and September 7 respectively. The move marks the end of an era for the no-fuss steak and pub chains popular with families across the UK. It comes after boss Dominic Paul said the firm was forced into the desperate shakeup “in light of significant cost increases” sparked by then Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ hike in National Insurance and business rates. Under the five-year survival plan, the firm will also sell off 110 sites and convert others into 600 new hotel rooms to save £250million. It also plans to sell £1.5billion of freehold property to help fund future growth. A massive 3,800 job roles are also expected to be cut as part of the cull.
