Brit pensioner, 90, found dead at villa in Thailand by horrified carer after ‘snapping his back while eating biscuits’

NewsWorld News A BRIT pensioner has been found dead in a luxury Thai villa after reportedly snapping his back while eating some biscuits. The OAP is believed to have leaned back to wash down the treats with water when he seriously injured himself and was left in that position for up to six agonising hours. His horrified caretaker saw the lifeless body draped over the chair as she desperately tried to rescue the man who was in his nineties. Forensics officers examined the body and estimated he had been dead for around four to six hours when he was found. They believe he likely died of “positional asphyxia”, when a person is stuck in a position that prevents or impedes their normal breathing. Investigators found the Brit in a chair with both arms raised and his legs seen pointing directly upwards on August 16. His phone and wallet were on the floor near him, while on the nearby table was a pack of biscuits and an uncapped water bottle. Police say the evidence all points towards the OAP trying to grab the bottle when he broke his back. The severe nature of the injury and the man’s age likely meant he couldn’t pull himself back up to help his breathing, police said. Most read in The Sun Police Lieutenant Uratthaya Raengtakorn of the Choeng Thale Police Station said a post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the exact cause of the tourist’s death. He added: “He had been living in Thailand for decades and was staying at the villa with a housekeeper. “That morning, she went in and he was still fine. Then she returned in the afternoon and found him dead on the chair. “There was no unusual smell or anything suspicious. “It appeared that he had slumped or fallen into that position and, because of his age, was unable to move himself back up. “No one caused his death. There was no indication that anyone else was involved. “However, the doctor would need to conduct an autopsy to establish the exact cause of death. “He appeared to be generally healthy and strong, although I’m not sure whether he had any underlying medical conditions.” Cops are also said to be probing if blood had pooled in the man’s head after he remained in an inappropriate position for such a prolonged period.
