Breaking Down the ‘Sterling Point’ Season 1 Ending

Fingers crossed that Sterling Point on Amazon Prime Video gets that sweet, sweet season 2 renewal, because the ending of season 1 leaves a lot open. We just got to know these messy Canadian (and Canadian adjacent) teens, and their even messier parents, and now they’re gone. Let’s get the conversation about that Sterling Point ending going, so that hopefully the powers that be see us talking and give us more.As you know, the show follows a reformed Type A teenager named Annie who runs away to a cottage on an island in Canada she just inherited after losing out on a fellowship. (A lot of us would kill to have problems like that.) There, she meets a fun new friend group in Oona, Sully, and Ellis. Her twin brother Connor joins her, as well as her secret kinda/sorta sister named Ramona. She runs into a middle school named Rory, who represents the rich summer-only crowd on the island. The group gets thrown for several loops, including the revelation that Connor and Annie’s adoptive mother Goldie died giving birth to Ramona, not from cancer as their adoptive mother Steven told them. Oh, and Goldie was having an affair with Ellis’ father Joe and he may be (probably is) Ramona’s father. Also, Annie gets caught up in a love triangle between Ellis and Rory. Meanwhile, Ramona is head over heels in love with her best friend, Oona, and doesn’t know what to do. So much drama!!Who is Ramona’s actual biological father?Twist of the century! At the end of the season, just after learning that Joe (who had an affair with Goldie) believes he’s her father, Ramona figures out that Steven is actually her father. She overhears Annie talking about him being colorblind, just like her. One quick genetics Google and a not-so-quick paternity test later and it’s official. Steven and Goldie did have a biological child after all. Ramona, Connor and Annie aren’t half-adopted siblings, they’re just adopted siblings. It’s really so sad, when you start to think about it. These kids whole lives have been a massive misunderstanding. Steven could have raised all three of them together. The twins could have grown up with Ramona and their grandfather!Who went back to New York with Joe?The big “reveal” at the end of season 1 is that Annie stayed in Lake Muskoka at her grandfather’s cottage on the island, and Ramona went to New York City. They traded lives, like The Parent Trap or It Takes Two but without the secrecy. This gives Annie the chance to continue figuring out what she wants to do with her life and Ramona the chance to get to know her father. The logistics of that have not been hashed out on screen. How did Ramona transfer schools between countries on a whim? Does Annie have a job? We won’t know until Sterling Point returns for season 2, if it does!Add Cosmopolitan as a preferred source in your Google search results.Use your Google account to add this to your settings. What is everyone’s relationship status?Unfortunately, Ramona ditching Canada means that she and Oona are broken up. We gotta hope that the magic of Sterling Point brings them back together ASAP, because those mutual pining besties only got about a second of happiness. As for the Team Rory vs. Team Ellis of it all, Annie is also unattached at the end of Sterling Point season 1. However, Ellis is on the island and Rory is not. Her choice to stay at her grandfather’s cottage means spending more time with him in the immediate future. Make of that what you will...Connor and Sully are also sans love interests at the end of season 1, if you even care. I don’t have a pathological need to pair everyone up, but it is something to consider if and when the show gets renewed for more seasons.Who was calling Connor at the end?The second big reveal in the Sterling Point finale happens when Connor gets a phone call from an adoption agency. The woman on the line tells him that his (and Annie’s) birth mother is willing to meet him. What a random side quest for Camp Rock 2’s biggest fan! Is he going to tell Annie about this, or keep it to himself? For maximum dramatic potential, I’m going to guess the latter... and I’m already stressed. Are they going to sell the island? As of this moment, it does not look like Annie (and Connor and Ramona) are going to sell the island. However, let’s remember that Ramona is not 18 yet. When she comes of age, she’s going to have more of a say in the matter as a beneficiary. Annie asked Ramona to give them a year to decide, so we’ll see what happens after they’ve spent some time apart. Season 2 cannot get 1) announced and 2) here soon enough.
