Throughout 2026, the bestselling author has been working on the script for Apple's adaptation of his Mistborn fantasy book series, which includes the novels The Final Empire, The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages. Sanderson regularly updates his fans on the status of his projects, both on the page and on the screen, which he did in July with the major announcement that script's first draft is complete. Now he has a major new update that teases the release timeline for Mistborn. During an interview with IGN, Sanderson admitted that the film is "still many years off" because there is so much work to complete, from finishing script revisions and finding a director to actually filming the movie and spending time on the visual effects in post-production. Filming probably won't get underway until a few years from now, and then once principal photography is complete, there could be an additional two years of post-production since "visual effects these days can take a good 18 months on a big film, or more." Sanderson doesn't want to "get too far ahead of ourselves" because at the moment, his singular focus is to make sure the script is "the best possible version of itself." More to come...
