As Sarah J. Maas' next novel has grown closer, the publisher has doled out clues about what's to come, but only giving so much intel into the next era of the ACOTAR universe. With the return to Prythian near, the new teaser for ACOSH may seem like it's purposefully obtuse, but the quote revealed clues about the novel's focal point. With A Court of Splintered Harmony the sixth book in the ACOTAR series overall and the first movement of Maas' Valkyrie Cycle, Bloomsbury's decision to release a quote about finding the way home was particularly telling. In an Instagram post, the publisher revealed another snippet of the novel with the quote, “There will always be sisters lost to us – ones we pray each day will find a way home to our sides.” While the quote doesn't confirm the identity of its speaker, the wording makes a priestess seem like a compelling possibility to be the highly-anticipated novel's central character. While there are several options as to both who could be saying the quote and who the novel could be focused on, the fact that previous books have expanded the roles of priestesses to establish their connection to the Valkyries leads to the possibility that one may be taking the spotlight. Clotho May Be The Most Overlooked Possibility To Lead ACOSH Although there have been plenty of signs that point to Nesta Archeron being the focal point of A Court of Splintered Harmony, the recently released quote could point to an unlikely narrator in Clotho. While Clotho has never been one of the ACOTAR's central characters, her position in the House of Wind makes her relevant to the story of ACOSH. As the High Priestess of the library beneath the House of Wind, Clotho oversees the other priestesses who live and work there. In A Court of Silver Flames, she also becomes part of Nesta's new life, which gives her intel. Clotho is responsible for a community of women seeking sanctuary in the library, as the priestesses' shared history is one of seeking safety after violence. The new line's reference to sisters being lost and praying they find their way home fits most naturally within that environment, and while the context doesn't prove that Clotho says the line or receives it, the language is consistent with someone speaking from her perspective. With the quote sounding like an older authority figure, it's possible Clotho could be pulled into the spotlight within A Court of Splintered Harmony, even if she isn't the focus. Other ACOTAR Characters Could Lead ACOSH Custom Image by Ana Nieves While a priestess point of view would give ACOSH access to one of the least explored groups in Prythian, Clotho isn't the only option for the core perspective of the novel. The most obvious possibility remains Nesta, particularly because A Court of Splintered Harmony is officially part of The Valkyrie Cycle, and Nesta was at the core of A Court of Silver Flames. As one of the three women responsible for reviving the Valkyries, it's possible that she could be at the center of the first Movement. There's also the possibility that Nesta wouldn't be the sole protagonist of ACOSH. Nesta could return alongside Gwyn and Emerie in a multi-POV structure for the novel and the subsequent Movements, which could make for a very different reading experience within the ACOTAR series. The Valkyrie branding doesn't necessarily mean that the books will focus on three separate women, but it does seem like the most logical outcome for the books. It's also possible that Elain, whose story remains largely unresolved after A Court of Silver Flames didn't give her a full-length story. While the teaser hasn't revealed enough to be sure, A Court of Splintered Harmony will reveal all its secrets soon.
