Bloodborne PS5 Remaster And Sequel Get Long-Awaited Update

Published Jul 24, 2026, 7:00 AM EDT Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there. Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers. Although the future is looking somewhat bright for Bloodborne fans, with the upcoming animated series expected to encapsulate the magic and horror of the FromSoftware title, there is still a very big elephant in the room. Despite its popularity since its launch back in 2015, Bloodborne remains firmly stuck in the past. Not only is it still a PlayStation exclusive, but even its PlayStation 5 version, which is available courtesy of backwards compatibility, is yet to receive a next-gen update, leaving the RPG locked at 30FPS on both consoles. As such, fans have been practically begging for a remaster, remake, PC port, or even a minor next-gen update for the past decade, but with Bloodborne remaining firmly in the hands of Sony Interactive Entertainment, for whatever reason, it is not giving us what we want. In recent weeks, former PlayStation President of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, was asked about the lack of remaster or PC port for Bloodborne. In a recent keynote speech, Yoshida himself expressed confusion over the lack of an update, saying it "remains a mystery." If even the ex-President of Sony is saying this, it truly does remain a mystery as to why we have not received that long-awaited Bloodborne update. Since his retirement back in January 2025, Yoshida has regularly popped up at gaming events and conferences across the world, and most recently, he attended the 2026 Japan Computer Entertainment Developers Conference where he delivered the keynote speech in question. Taking place on 22 July, the ex-President spoke about gaming in general, as well as some specific games, including Bloodborne, which he discusses at the 59-minute mark of the livestream. After revealing that one of the proudest moments of his career was defeating a particularly challenging Bloodborne boss, he goes onto express confusion as to why the game has "so many fans all around the world, yet there still hasn't been a PS5 version released." He references the myriad of remasters and remakes of games that have been released in recent years, and yet Bloodborne is "not even out on PC." Finally, when asked why a remaster has not been made, Yoshida claims it is a "mystery" and that it "might come out in the future or it might not." On top of that, he also touched upon a potential Bloodborne sequel, but his answer was merely that it "might be made, or it might not." Is this a reason to get excited over a potential Bloodborne remaster or sequel? Probably not. Not only is Yoshida an ex-Sony employee, but he is even confused as to why it has not yet happened. It truly does remain a mystery, but hopefully, if we continue to make noise, one day, Sony will be forced to listen. Released March 24, 2015 ESRB M for Mature: Blood and Gore, Violence Developer(s) From Software Publisher(s) Sony Engine Havok
