Billionaire owner buys old B&Q as part of plans to completely revamp iconic UK stadium

THE MEGA-RICH co-owner of the Manchester Super Giants has bought an old B&Q to help revamp Old Trafford. And he has splashed out on the plot, which was most recently home to a massive B&Q, with a view to building state-of-the-art training facilities which the Super Giants, as well as Lancashire County Cricket Club’s men’s and women’s teams, can use all year round. The development is set to include an outdoor ground for training, indoor nets, medical facilities and a sports science hub. Goenka told The Times: “We could have chosen to do this [in] India but we chose to invest in Manchester and Old Trafford because we really see the potential there. “Manchester has a tremendous sporting culture and Old Trafford stadium is amazing. What they have done there, I get goosebumps when I walk into the stadium. “We understand the heritage of the place, and of Lancashire, and we want to make sure we build a legacy. “We have taken possession of the land and completed the transaction. It’s something that holds a very good promise.
