Big Ten football stadium rankings: Nos. 6-4

Nothing is as electric as a college football stadium on a Saturday. The pomp. The pageantry. The passion. It all oozes. I have had the chance to attend games in all 18 Big Ten stadiums—as well as many others across the nation. So, pick up your pom-pom and start shaking it. Here’s my ranking of Big Ten stadiums: MORE Big Ten stadium ranks: 18-16 | 15-13 | 12-10 | 9-7 6 Wisconsin, Camp Randall Stadium Welcome to the oldest stadium in the Big Ten. And the rowdiest, too. Camp Randall was christened in 1917. And the old lady still rocks. If you are sitting in the press box, you’ll feel it sway when “Jump Around” is played prior to the fourth quarter. Fun fact: That tradition was sparked after Wisconsin scored no offensive points in the third quarter of a 1998 game vs. Purdue. Oh, and be sure to hang around for the Fifth Quarter postgame concert. Bottom line: No Big Ten stadium (or city) is more fun. 5 Washington, Husky Stadium You won’t find a better setting in the Big Ten. The more I think about it, the more I realize I should have ranked Husky Stadium higher on this list. Few settings are better. Fans look out on the Cascade Mountains and Lake Washington, where boats arrive to watch their beloved Huskies while “sailgating.” The stands shoot high into the sky. And the noise echoes to the point where Husky Stadium was once rated the loudest in the nation. 4 Michigan, Michigan Stadium AKA, the Big House. And it lives up to that billing, seating over 107,000 to make it the third largest stadium … in the world. Its scale is deceiving from the exterior. Why? Because Michigan Stadium is essentially a massive bowl dug into the ground. It’s a sweeping vista of blue and gold denizens sardined shoulder-to-shoulder. The issue? Pitch of the stands. They aren’t steep enough, leaving many spectators far from the action. Still, the place oozes with history.
