Bengaluru: Student part of Freedom Park protest assaulted; FIR registered

While the FIR in the case does not attribute any motive to the attack or identify the affiliation of the attackers, AISA, in a statement issued on Thursday, alleged that the assailants were affiliated with a Hindutva right-wing organisation. | Photo Credit: Image for representational purpose A 19-year-old student associated with the All India Students Association (AISA), who was part of the protest against the NEET paper leak at Freedom Park in Bengaluru, was allegedly assaulted by four unidentified men near BEL Circle in Jalahalli on Tuesday.While the FIR in the case does not attribute any motive to the attack or identify the affiliation of the attackers, AISA, in a statement issued on Thursday, alleged that the assailants were affiliated with a Hindutva right-wing organisation. The organisation claimed that the attackers threatened the student, asking how he dared demand the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, before assaulting him.The victim, a resident of Jalahalli, said the incident took place between 10.30 p.m. and 10.45 p.m. on Tuesday while he was walking home after dinner and speaking on his mobile phone along the BEL Circle service road towards MES Road.According to the complaint, two motorcycles carrying four unidentified men intercepted him. The assailants allegedly confirmed his identity before verbally abusing him and asking, “Do you want Modi’s resignation?” They then allegedly attacked him with a wooden stick, causing injuries to his leg, and fled the scene.AISA said the student had to undergo treatment for the injuries sustained in the attack and was placed in a plaster cast. The organisation condemned the attack and called for the immediate arrest of those responsible. It also sought the intervention of the Karnataka Home Department to ensure a swift and fair probe.The Jalahalli police have registered an FIR against unidentified miscreants under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to unlawful assembly, wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
