Beloved rock frontman dead at 45: ‘Musical and artistic force’

He was 45.His death was announced with a statement on the Cult of Youth Facebook page. “It is with a heavy heart that I say, Sean Ragon has left this mortal coil,” the post read. “Thank you to all of you for the support over the years. Love will prevail.”A cause of death has not been reported. Stereogum.com called Cult of Youth a “goth-and-punk-rooted psych-folk band.” The site said Ragon began his music career in the 1990s playing in local punk bands in his hometown of Cambridge, Massachusetts. After playing in a handful of bands, Ragon founded Cult of Youth.Stereogum.com said the group took “influence from pagan folk acts, a wide range of goth and punk bands, and industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle.”The band’s debut self-titled LP was released in 2011. The group’s last offering came with 2022’s “With Open Arms.”“Sean Ragon has died,” musician Carmen Burguess wrote on Facebook. “Sean released the first record of my life. He drove us across the US on tour himself, and we nearly died on the road together. We played a thousand places together. He was the most sophisticated record collector and the most extreme music lover I ever met. He loved Mueran Humanos like nobody did or ever will. He saw us on so many stages, and I always envied a little being on his side of that. Thank you, Sean. I’m so sorry I won’t see you again. I’m glad you left children in this world.
