Barry Manilow to take a ‘quick break’ after ‘pushing too hard’ on summer tour

Barry Manilow has said he will take a break after “pushing too hard” during his summer tour, days after cancelling two Las Vegas residency shows.The singer, 83, shared a statement on Instagram that read: “Hi everybody – Barry here. And I want you to be the first to know that we’re going to take a quick break.“We just finished a fantastic summer tour. 29 shows in 68 days. The shows were fantastic. The audiences were fantastic. And I sounded fantastic.“But it seems that we were pushing a little too hard. Now we all need to sit down and shut up.“So, we’re going to take a break until we return to the Westgate Las Vegas on October 8th.“When I’ll be singing like a bird. I hope to see you then.”It comes after Manilow cancelled two Las Vegas residency dates on August 21 and 22.In a statement, he said: “We’re very sorry but we have to cancel tonight’s and tomorrow’s performances. Due to technical and vocal problems, we’re unable to put on our show.”The performer also cancelled a show in Lexington, Kentucky, that was due to take place on August 4.In a post on X, he wrote: “Due to unforeseen circumstances tonight’s show in Lexington has been rescheduled.”The performance was previously postponed in March due to Manilow’s lung cancer treatment.Manilow said: “We’re going to take a break until we return to the Westgate Las Vegas on October 8th” (Ian West/PA)PA ArchiveManilow underwent a lobectomy in December 2025 and had to spend seven days in an intensive care unit, which he described as a “nightmare”.A lobectomy is a procedure to remove a section, or lobe, of the lung. It is a common treatment for people with lung cancer.Speaking to People magazine about his health, he said: “You just don’t even think about (how fragile life is). And suddenly, you have lung cancer.“But I’m still here. I’m not all here; there’s part of me that isn’t here — they took out a part of me, and now I’ve got to figure out: ‘What do I do?’“This really rocked me, but I’m getting stronger, and we’ll see if I can make it back.”
