Sign in to your Collider account One of the most anticipated animated projects is getting another physical release, but its marketing has already suffered a few blunders. Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender has opened pre-orders for its 4K UHD edition, months after its official release on Paramount+, and fans have shown their support for the project despite it leaking months earlier. Originally, the movie was supposed to be released in theaters, but its marketing has now confused it with another Avatar movie. And no, I'm not talking about James Cameron's blue aliens. Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender is the Avatar franchise's first full-length animated feature, set between the original series and The Legend of Korra. The movie follows a grown-up Team Avatar as they learn about an ancient staff that belonged to Avatar Sonam and is now sought by a group of non-bending outlaws called the Denied. Since its release, the film has earned an impressive 90% critics' score and a near-perfect 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, proving there's still love for the franchise 18 years after the final episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender aired. However, the marketing for its home release has confused it with a previous Avatar project that many may have forgotten about. CBR reported that promotional materials for Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender's home media release contained an incorrect set of credits. Instead of listing Lauren Montgomery as the director, it reportedly credited M. Night Shyamalan. The press release appears to have confused Avatar: Aang: The Last Airbender with the infamous 2010 live-action adaptation, The Last Airbender, which stars Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) as Prince Zuko. According to the report, even the synopsis contained errors, as it no longer described the animated film's setting after the Hundred Year War and instead used the synopsis of the 2010 adaptation. The same mistake also reportedly affected the listed cast members. Regardless, Avatar: Aang: The Last Airbender's 4K UHD SteelBook is available for pre-order on Amazon for $45.99 USD, with a release date of February 9, 2027, while the DVD and Blu-ray editions were released on November 3, 2026. The movie follows Aang (Noah Ringer), an airbender trapped in an iceberg for 100 years, who is freed by Katara (Nicola Peltz) and Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), two siblings from the Southern Water Tribe, with Katara being a waterbender. Aang is pursued by Zuko, the exiled prince of the Fire Nation, who is tasked with capturing him alive so he can return home and restore his honor. The Last Airbender received overwhelmingly negative reviews for several reasons, including bad dialogue and writing, excessive narration, and poor visual effects and bending choreography, to name a few. It was so poorly received that it earned eight Golden Raspberry Award nominations and won five, including "Worst Picture," "Worst Director," and "Worst Screenplay." Collider's Matt Goldberg gave The Last Airbender an "F" in his review, and wished he could give it a lower score, claiming it was "racist" and it disrespected the source material.
