Ather Energy has revealed the name of its upcoming affordable electric scooter, Konarc, ahead of its global debut on August 29. The scooter will be the first production model built on Ather's newly developed EL platform, which has been engineered to help the brand expand into India's highly competitive commuter electric scooter segment.The announcement follows Ather's recent confirmation that production of the new scooter has already begun at its manufacturing facility. Alongside the name reveal, the company has also shared fresh teaser images that offer the clearest look yet at the scooter's exterior design.Design inspired by EL01 conceptThe teasers indicate that the production-ready Konarc remains largely faithful to the earlier EL01 concept. Up front, the scooter features a handlebar-mounted headlamp, a vertically styled front apron and a full-width LED daytime running light stretching across the fascia. Illuminated Ather lettering sits above the DRL, giving the front end a distinctive identity.Viewed from the side, the Konarc adopts a practical, family-focused design with a long single-piece seat, a spacious floorboard and an upright stance, moving away from the sportier proportions of the Ather 450 series. At the rear, slim LED tail lamps are neatly integrated into the bodywork, while alloy wheels and a front disc brake suggest that higher variants will continue to offer premium equipment. Besides improving durability, the move is expected to make the scooter more appealing to mainstream buyers accustomed to conventional family scooters.Designed for wider market appealAccording to Ather co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta, the EL platform represents nearly a decade of learnings from the company's electric vehicle journey. Unlike Ather's earlier offerings, which largely catered to technology enthusiasts and performance-oriented customers, the new platform has been developed with a stronger focus on affordability, comfort, ease of ownership and everyday practicality.The company is targeting improvements across key ownership aspects, including charging convenience, maintenance costs, safety and long-term value. With its more accessible positioning, the Konarc is expected to broaden Ather's customer base beyond premium buyers and strengthen its presence in the country's highest-volume electric scooter category.Debut scheduled for August 29Ather will officially unveil the Konarc during Ather Community Day on August 29, where the company is also expected to make several other product and technology announcements.
