Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has seen a surge in players due to Nolan film

| Games News Reporter Published July 30, 2026 4:52pm Updated July 30, 2026 5:00pm You do fight a cyclops in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey but that’s one of the only commonalities it has with Nolan’s movie (Ubisoft) Despite sharing very little in common with Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has seen a new influx of players in the wake of the movie’s release. Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of The Odyssey has taken the world by storm and will very likely inspire a lot of people to consider Greece for their next holiday trip. One thing we didn’t expect, though, is for The Odyssey’s popularity to spill over into Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed; or rather the entry that happens to share the same name as the movie. Yes, 2018’s Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has reportedly seen a surge in interest following the release of Nolan’s movie, even though it otherwise has nothing to do with the actual story of The Odyssey. This is according to data shared by Alinea Analytics, which tracked player activity for Ubisoft’s game across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms. It reveals that the game’s daily active player count across all platforms sat around 122,000 on July 17, the day Nolan’s film released in UK and US cinemas. On PlayStation, the game’s daily player count saw a 94% increase to 114,000, while on Xbox, it more than doubled from 36,000 to 84,000. Alinea Analytics also mentions that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has sold about 400,000 copies since this time last year, but it’s unclear how many of those are from just the last couple of weeks. There’s no way this spike in activity is a coincidence (Alinea Analytics) It seems like people, while riding the high of the Nolan film, either just happened to come across Assassin’s Creed Odyssey while browsing PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass and decided to check it out or had fallen off the game but were compelled to revisit it because of the movie. For what it’s worth, Ubisoft did make a handful of cheeky social media posts to promote Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, to coincide with the movie, but it’s otherwise been focusing on advertising the newly released Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s only real commonality with The Odyssey is that they are both set in Ancient Greece. The game otherwise has no connection to The Odyssey and there aren’t even that many supernatural elements. It’s also set several hundred years later than the events of the epic poem. That said, Ubisoft did add a cyclops boss fight as part of a free post-launch update, as well as a DLC expansion called The Fate Of Atlantis, which sees you interact with several Greek gods and other mythological monsters. Should we now expect Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Resynced in the future? (Ubisoft) Email gamecentral@metro.co.uk, leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter.
