It's wild to think the franchise turns 20 next year, given that the original Assassin's Creed, featuring the OG series assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, came out in November 2007. The series has come a long way since then, injecting a ton of extra systems into its framework, including RPG and loot mechanics, much to the chagrin of some fans. It's also dabbled in multiple forms of media, like a feature film. Now, it's officially switching genres yet again come October. Thanks to a new listing from Zatu, we know just what to expect from the next major Assassin's Creed release. Assassin's Creed: Animus Releases In October On October 15, Assassin's Creed: Animus, a tabletop adaptation of the Assassin's Creed universe, will release a collector's edition. Through this game, you'll be able to relive 10 different historical areas of the series, play with 16 characters with bust-style miniatures, and enjoy a deluxe game box, deluxe components, and a special event deck exclusive to the Collector's Edition. In all, you're getting 30+ Animus Cards, 250 Memory Cards, and 100+ Assassin Cards, which are all used to play. To play, you'll spend actions to move across the era board, investigate locations along the way, and find enemies to defeat. You'll use a "central Memory Deck" to create an emergent gameplay loop, and since targets require unique approaches, the game ostensibly changes every time you play. The game ends once one player has eliminated four targets, then you'll tally up scores to see who wins. Here's what you can expect from the game: "Assassin's Creed: Animus is a game of adventure and rivalry, where each player enters the memories of a legendary assassin with unique abilities and goals. 1-4 players step into the shadows as legendary Assassins. Explore the past, strike down targets, and race to make your mark on history. You'll choose a character with their own era, skills, equipment, and playstyle that shapes your experience." Right now, pre-orders run roughly $143 at Zatu, but the MSRP is higher, so that could change if you buy it from another retailer. That's a slight bump from the early run during the game's crowdfunding effort, which ran roughly $113 USD (before shipping). Animus Will Span At Least 10 Eras Of AC For reference, Assassin's Creed: Animus was Kickstarted by the UK-based Mantic Games in September 2025, when it reached its funding goal. Now the game is finally poised for fulfillment, with the USA, Canada, Central and South America, and UK backers getting their shipments in "early to mid-October." There is a word of warning, however: "We've been in contact about the departure of all our shipments, but with ports as busy as they are, the current weather could cause further delays to timelines. Here are the best estimates of arrival times based on this week's information." While everyone deals with the current reality of global logistics, Assassin's Creed will continue its legacy in tabletop format.
