Avengers: Endgame Encore's Multiverse Collapse Has "Great Level Of Importance" For Doomsday, Confirms Russo Bros

The recent re-release of Avengers: Endgame has delivered fans four new sequences to prepare them for the highly anticipated debut of Avengers: Doomsday on December 18. One of these new scenes takes place at the Time Variance Authority, featuring three characters from the Disney+ series Loki, as they witness the massive multiverse collapse caused by the incursions. Offering a clear explanation of Avengers: Endgame Encore’s TVA scene are the Russo brothers, who confirmed that they were the ones who pushed for Avengers: Endgame Encore’s release. In an interview with Empire, when asked about the TVA sequence, the Russo brothers revealed that this particular scene holds a “great level of importance” to the storytelling of Avengers: Doomsday. They confirmed that it was the moment that brings together the X-Men and The Fantastic Four universes into the Avengers universe, teasing that “everything is premeditated.” They also guaranteed that every new piece of footage features clues that will give fans an idea of Doomsday’s overall story. Joe Russo: “It’s the most profound thing that's ever happened to the MCU. It is the perceived end of times. Everything the TVA was set up to do is to protect the timelines from collapsing, and now they're in a catastrophic collapse. And so that scene, I would argue, yes, has a great level of importance. I wouldn't say that it is more important than another scene. But it is certainly critical to the storytelling of Doomsday.” Anthony Russo: “It is the unifying principle of combining the X-Men universe, the Avengers universe, The Fantastic Four universe. That is at the heart of the collision of these universes. The Russos also explained their reason for requesting Avengers: Endgame Encore’s release, sharing that it was their way to give everyone a chance to relive and experience the joy of seeing the superhero movie on the big screen. However, they clarify that moviegoers don’t necessarily need to see the re-release version just to keep up with Avengers: Doomsday. Joe Russo: “It's up to you. I mean, I would argue if you're gonna go see it, who knows if this movie will ever be back in theatres? This was a request of ours to go back into the movie, and really push this film back out again. Because one of the greatest sights of our lives was getting to stand there at the back of a theatre on opening night of Avengers: Endgame, and all the work we'd done over seven years, all that hard work paying off. The energy felt like a rock concert.” He continued, “That sense of community, everybody sharing that story together. And there's a generation that has only seen it from their couch, or their living room. And people like to go see these movies with family members, and with children and with grandparents. This is just one more opportunity for them to go out and have a communal experience again. Movies are, frankly, one of the only things left that really truly bind us and give us shared experiences. That, sporting events, concerts, you know. And so to have an opportunity to take a movie like this, that really galvanised people, we're excited, and we really wanted that opportunity to be there again for the audience. So far, the re-release has already brought in an additional gross of $86 million worldwide, making it the second-highest debut for a re-release title.
