Apple event on Sept 9: iPhone 18 Pro series, iPhone Ultra launch expected

Apple's September 9 event is almost here, and there could be more than the usual iPhone upgrades in store. From the iPhone 18 Pro series to Apple's first foldable iPhone and new Watches, here's everything expected at the event.Representative image created using AIIt’s almost time. In just three days, Apple will host its annual autumn event, and this time the tagline is “Surprise and shine”. As usual, the company is expected to unveil the new generation of iPhones, Apple Watches and more. But this year, there could be a few bigger surprises in store. As is typical with Apple, the company is all tight-lipped about what it has planned. But the rumours have already given us a fair idea of what could be coming, with the iPhone 18 Pro series, the first-ever foldable iPhone and a new generation of Apple Watches all expected to feature at the event. The September 9 event will also mark a new chapter for Apple. John Ternus will host his first major iPhone launch as CEO, having officially taken over the role earlier this month, while Tim Cook is now Apple’s executive chairman. So, what exactly is Apple expected to unveil? Here is everything to look forward to at the September 9 event. iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro MaxThe iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are the safest bets for the event. On the looks side, Apple is reportedly keeping the overall design familiar this year, with most of the changes happening under the hood and around the cameras and display. The Pro models are expected to feature Apple's new A20 Pro chip, a smaller Dynamic Island and the company's C2 modem. There could also be a simplified Camera Control button and new colour options, including a Dark Cherry shade. The iPhone 18 Pro Max could get a few extra upgrades of its own. Reports suggest it may be slightly thicker to accommodate a larger battery, while a variable-aperture main camera could also be exclusive to the Pro Max. The camera would allow the aperture to adjust depending on lighting conditions, potentially giving users more control over light and depth of field.Apple's first foldable iPhoneWhile the iPhone 18 Pro lineup will be the star of the show, Apple fans and tech enthusiasts are probably more curious about what else the company has up its sleeve. Because we are hearing whispers of an all new iPhone with a foldable display. Yes, Apple's long-rumoured foldable iPhone is said to finally make its official launch on September 9. The device is reportedly designed in a book-style format, with a roughly 5.5-inch outer OLED display that opens up into a much larger 7.8-inch screen. When unfolded, the phone could be as thin as 4.5mm, making it one of Apple's thinnest devices.Apple is also reportedly making some compromises to achieve that thin design. The foldable may use Touch ID instead of Face ID, with the fingerprint sensor built into the side button. It is also expected to have two rear cameras rather than the three-camera setup found on the Pro models. The foldable is widely rumoured to be called the iPhone Ultra, although Apple has not confirmed the name. It is also expected to be a very expensive device, with reports suggesting a starting price of around $2,000 or more.New Apple Watch modelsApple is also expected to refresh its smartwatch lineup with the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4.The Series 12 is reportedly set to retain the familiar design but could get a faster chip and improved health and fitness tracking. A ceramic case option could also return. The Watch Ultra 4 is expected to follow a similar approach, with internal upgrades rather than a major redesign.AirPods 5 could also arriveThe AirPods 5 are another expected launch. Apple could introduce two versions, with one offering active noise cancellation and another without ANC. An updated H3 chip could bring improvements to audio quality and latency. What about the regular iPhone 18?All the premium gadgets but what about the vanilla iPhone 18. Well, as we are hearing for a long time, the regular iPhone 18 may not be part of Apple's September launch at all. Apple is reportedly changing its iPhone release strategy, with the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air expected to arrive in spring 2027 instead. That means September could be focused entirely on Apple's premium iPhones and its first foldable. There could also be a few surprises, including updates to Apple's smart-home products, but the biggest announcements are likely to be the iPhone 18 Pro series and Apple's first foldable iPhone. However do note that all these are expected and not officially confirmed by Apple so the final launch might see few changes. That said, with a new CEO, a new iPhone generation and Apple's entry into the foldable market, the September 9 event could be one of the company's most significant product launches in years.- EndsPublished By: Divya BhatiPublished On: Sep 6, 2026 18:28 IST
