Anupama Parameswaran says ex made her feel ashamed of periods, being a woman

Actor Anupama Parameswaran has said that her former boyfriend made her feel ashamed of being a woman, having periods and even being an actor. Speaking on Dhyan Varma’s YouTube channel, she said the experience of being in what she described as a controlling and narcissistic relationship changed how she felt about herself and her future.Anupama said she once dreamt of having 11 children, but no longer wants any after what she went through. She also said she was made to feel bad about her confidence and her professional achievements, and claimed that the relationship affected her choices in both her personal life and career.In the interview, Anupama said, “I was in a situation where I was ashamed that I was an actor. I was ashamed that I was confident. I was ashamed that I have my periods and I’m a woman.”Explaining the remark, she said, “Because, first day of the cycle, fifth day of the cycle, tenth day of the cycle, fifteenth day of the cycle, twentieth day, twenty-fifth day, any day of the cycle. You confront this person for a mistake he has done, they will say, oh, you’re PMSing, your period is yet to come. So I was so ashamed. I was someone who dreamt of having 11 children. At this point, I don’t even want kids. I felt so bad for being a woman. I felt so bad for all my achievements.” Across two long videos on the channel, Anupama spoke about being in a controlling relationship with an unnamed person for two years. She claimed that the person slowly changed everything about her, from the way she dressed to the way she approached her work.She also said she did not promote Dragon because of him and that she broke down during the promotions of Paradha after being s**t-shamed. According to Anupama, she was also under constant pressure to get engaged and married, but kept delaying it because of what she called her gut instinct. Anupama also shared that she had returned to social media in July after a break and had since started speaking about her ex without naming him. She also compared his personality to Vikram’s Anniyan.The actor had shared screen space with Dhruv Vikram in Mari Selvaraj’s Bison Kaalamaadan last year. Since early 2025, rumours have linked the two after fans pointed to an unverified kissing photo and a shared Spotify playlist.
