Several BJP leaders' daughters have come forward to support the massive protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with the latest addition being Yashaswinee Raje Singh. A content creator, she is the daughter of BJP's Vikram Singh, former MLA from Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur Sadar. Speaking with Al Jazeera, Yashaswinee – who participated in the student protests by CJP at Delhi's Jantar Mantar – termed the new Education Minister, Pralhad Joshi, a "bleak joke".During the interview, she called the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan more of a martyr than someone who is "remorseful". Yashaswinee also slammed the BJP leader for his choice of words in the resignation letter wherein he mentioned that his decision was to ensure "anti-national forces" do not exploit the situation."It's really, really short-sighted to be viewing the resignation as sort of this watershed moment," she told Al Jazeera. The CJP protests, which drew thousands of supporters at Delhi's Jantar Mantar, and also spread to other cities across the nation, ended after 36 days with the fulfilment of the key demand – the resignation of Pradhan over the NEET paper leak row. It grabbed the global spotlight as well, with Gen-Z student protesters clashing with police forces. Reacting to the scale of the stir, Yashaswinee said that the CJP did a great job in galvanising the "apolitical audience" through memes, innovative messaging and Instagram.Talking about her situation at home and dynamics with her father, Yashaswinee said that she does not speak to her father about politics. She also stressed that she is financially independent, lives on her own and has not been to Fatehpur Sadar for several years. "I choose not to participate in that sort of environment at all. I have not visited there (Fatehpur Sadar) for many years. So I maintain a very, very large sort of chasm between all of that and myself. And that is how I am able to say the things I do without feeling like a hypocrite," Yashaswinee told Al Jazeera.Earlier, Archita Sachin Rahar, daughter of BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi, grabbed attention for publicly cheering the resignation of Pradhan. She had shared a story on Instagram with the caption, "My family is with DP but I am with students." The post quickly went viral with many social media users claiming that members of the former Education Minister's team reached out to the MP, asking for the post to be taken down.Later, Archita's Instagram became unavailable.Another BJP leader whose daughter supported the CJP is Assam's Revenue Minister Keshab Mahanta. Videos of his daughter, Dibisa Mahanta, were widely shared on social media that showed her marching with the demonstrators with placards in hands, demanding Pradhan's resignation. Later, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma urged people not to troll his Minister, arguing that once children become adults, their actions should not be linked with their parents.- Ends(With inputs from PTI)Published On: Jul 31, 2026 15:00 IST
