Anne Hathaway Thriller Officially Removed From 600 Theaters After Hitting Digital

Published Nov 4, 2026, 2:33 PM EST Jeff Dodge (he/him), a published author and graduate of Western Washington University, has been a TV news editor for many years and has had the chance to interview multiple reality show stars, including Randy Jackson, Nick Cannon, Heidi Klum, Mel B and John Cena. Fun Fact: he’s been to every single Idol Live! Tour. Anne Hathaway's psychological thriller Verity was recently released on digital platforms, and it's already making a big impact on the movie's theatrical run. Dakota Johnson stars as a writer tasked with ghostwriting a book series. Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, who suffers from terrible injuries after a car accident. After being released in theaters on October 2, the film has gone on to gross $172.8 million. Unfortunately, Verity earned negative reviews from critics, with a 31% Rotten Tomatoes score but a 72% from audiences. A month has passed, and Verity has just been removed from 612 theaters, according to Box Office Mojo. This is likely because, as of October 27, the movie is now available to watch from the comfort of home on digital platforms. Verity opened in 3,510 domestic theaters. In mid-October, it was pulled from 500 locations, a trend that continued in the following weeks, with the most recent weekend seeing Verity drop from 2,442 to 1,830 theaters. Verity debuted at No. 1 on opening weekend, beating out Resident Evil, Heart of the Beast, Digger, Primetime and Forgotten Island. Tom Cruise's Digger debuted the same day but settled for fourth place, according to Box Office Mojo, with an underwhelming reception both financially and critically. Hathaway and Johnson's co-stars in Verity are Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Córdova and Irina Dvorovenko. Michael Showalter, who previously directed The Big Sick and worked on shows like Grace and Frankie and The Dropout, helmed Verity, with screenwriter Nick Antosca adapting Colleen Hoover's novel of the same name. Aside from Verity, Hoover's Confess, It Ends with Us, Regretting You and Reminders of Him have also been adapted for the screen. Hathaway's career has had a huge 2026, with five films released throughout the year, beginning with Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2, before starring in The Odyssey and The End of Oak Street over the summer. The Odyssey is the second-biggest movie of 2026 (behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day), with a box office haul of $1.8 million. The Devil Wears Prada 2 is also among the year's highest-grossing movies, currently sitting at No. 6 with $693.5 million. Now Verity wraps Hathaway's busy 2026. After its digital release, the thriller will next be available on Blu-ray and DVD starting December 15. A Prime Video release date has not been announced yet. After that, Hathaway's 2027 movie schedule will be much lighter, with the war film Alone at Dawn getting a limited release on Christmas Day.
