Sign in to your ScreenRant account The DC Universe has a few major TV shows on the way, which will feature both standout DC characters and more obscure players now that Lanterns season 1 has run its course. The DCU Chapter One just has three releases in 2026. That started with Milly Alcock's Supergirl movie. Then came Lanterns season 1, starring Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre's John Stewart. Lanterns was the first Green Lantern live-action release since Ryan Reynolds' 2011 movie. The HBO sci-fi series aired its season 1 finale on Sunday, October 4. Now, the wait has begun for Lanterns season 2, which has yet to be officially renewed by HBO and DC. That said, a writers' room has started coming up with early ideas for Lanterns' possible future. Up next for the DCU is its 3rd and final release of the year, another movie. That would be Clayface, which will be released in theaters on October 23. The R-rated DC movie is a body horror film that explores the origin story of the Batman villain. This will push the franchise into a different corner. A live-action DCU Batman has yet to be cast. As for the rest of the DCU's slate of projects, DC Studios had originally announced shows like Booster Gold, Waller, and Paradise Lost to be part of Chapter One. However, David Jenkins' version of Booster Gold is dead, progress on Waller has stalled, and the Wonder Woman prequel series Paradise Lost has seemingly been put on the back burner. As such, these are the three DCU TV shows confirmed to be releasing after Lanterns: 3 The People v. Gorilla Grodd So far, none of the DCU shows have set a release date, but given how the only live-action series on the way, The People v. Gorilla Grodd, is currently in production and features characters from Gunn's Superman movies, it could be the next to be released. After all, Gunn has confirmed that the HBO Max true crime mockumentary series is both mostly set after the events of 2027's Man of Tomorrow and will also be released after the Superman sequel. Man of Tomorrow flies into theaters on July 9, 2027. The People v. Gorilla Grodd, as its title suggests, will mark the DCU debut of the Flash villain Gorilla Grodd. The show will follow Skyler Gisondo's Jimmy Olsen and other characters from the Daily Planet as they investigate Grodd's popular trial and whether the telepathic ape really murdered his father, the King of Gorilla City. The People v. Gorilla Grodd will have eight episodes and features Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd. 2 Creature Commandos Season 2 While DC fans wait to see if Lanterns will be renewed for season 2, Gunn's animated Creature Commandos is confirmed to come back for season 2 in 2027, with Gunn saying on Threads that the new season will be released "not long after" Man of Tomorrow. Creature Commandos is a key DCU project, as not only does it feature several characters, including major players like Amanda Waller and Rick Flag Sr., but it was the DCU's first release. Creature Commandos season 2 will follow an updated team. At the end of season 1, it was teased that the DC series' new episodes would see Indira Varma's The Bride lead a team that included King Shark, Khalis, a giant G.I. Robot, Doctor Phosphorus, Weasel, and Nosferata. The latter will be voiced by Sydney Chandler, the daughter of Lanterns' Hal Jordan actor Kyle Chandler. Harley Quinn's Dean Lorey serves as showrunner. 1 Mister Miracle The final DCU show confirmed to be releasing soon is another animated series, Mister Miracle, which is based on Tom King's acclaimed comic book run. King, who co-created HBO's Lanterns, leads the project as its creator. King is writing all episodes of the adult animated series. Mister Miracle plays a major role in the DCU, as it will introduce the DCU's version of the ultimate villain, Darkseid. Nathan Fillion is confirmed to return as the Green Lantern Guy Gardner in Mister Miracle after his appearances in Lanterns. Mister Miracle will have to deal with the fact that his adoptive father, Darkseid, has seemingly gotten ahold of the Anti-Life Equation. With it, he could control the universe. In parallel to that, Scott Free will have to deal with his own mind, as buried pain comes crawling right out, making him re-examine everything. DC has a varied selection of shows coming after Lanterns to push the DCU forward in 2027. The People v. Gorilla Grodd Network HBO Max Showrunner Tony Yacenda, Dan Perrault Directors Tony Yacenda Writers Tony Yacenda, Dan Perrault Cast Jimmy Tatro Gorilla Grodd Skyler Gisondo Jimmy Olsen Beck Bennett Steve Lombard Set in the same cinematic world as James Gunn's hit 2025 Superman feature film, this upcoming mockumentary miniseries centers around Gorilla Grodd's conviction for the murder of his father, a criminal case reopened by the Daily Planet's own Jimmy Olsen.
