Akash Anand changes X bio after aunt Mayawati appoints brother to key BSP post

Akash Anand appears to have distanced himself further from the Bahujan Samaj Party after being sidelined from its organisational structure once again, marking another setback in his turbulent political journey under party chief Mayawati.Akash changed his social media bio to “BSP supporter”, days after removing his designation as national coordinator and describing himself as a party worker. His name is also missing from the BSP’s latest list of organisational office-bearers.The changes came after his aunt, Mayawati, removed him as national coordinator, saying he needed greater political maturity, and handed a key organisational responsibility to his younger brother, Ishaan Anand.Ishaan, also known as Ishu, has been appointed chief sector in-charge and tasked with reviewing the party’s work in around 15 states. He will report to his father, BSP national vice-president Anand Kumar. Akash has not formally announced his resignation from the BSP.However, his bio change, omission from the organisational list and his younger brother’s elevation have fuelled speculation that he has withdrawn from an active role in the party.AKASH ANAND’S REPEATED RISE AND FALL Akash’s latest sidelining is part of a recurring cycle of promotion, removal and rehabilitation within the BSP.Mayawati appointed him national coordinator in June 2019 and named him her political successor in December 2023. He subsequently emerged as one of the BSP’s most visible campaigners during the 2024 Lok Sabha election.However, Mayawati removed Akash as the party’s national coordinator and her political successor midway through the polls, saying he needed to attain “full maturity” before assuming such responsibilities.The action followed a campaign speech in Sitapur in which he compared the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh to the Taliban, leading to a police case against him and several others.Barely six weeks later, Mayawati restored him to both positions after the BSP failed to win a single Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. The reversal came as the party faced a leadership vacuum and growing competition for the Dalit vote.The cycle repeated in March 2025, when Mayawati stripped Akash of all party posts and expelled him.The action came amid allegations that his father-in-law, former Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Siddharth, was exerting excessive influence over him and building a parallel network within the organisation.Akash later issued a public apology, described Mayawati as his “sole political guru” and promised not to allow his personal relationships or in-laws to influence his political decisions.He returned to the BSP in April and was reappointed chief national coordinator the following month.His reinstatements reflected the BSP’s need for a recognisable young leader who could connect with a new generation of voters.
