According to Judi Dench, the Biggest James Bond Baddie Was Daniel Craig All Along

1 min readDaniel Craig’s much-celebrated time as 007 wasn’t just bad news for the world’s supervillains—the good guys dropped like flies, too. After Craig joined the franchise in 2006’s Casino Royale, the legendary Judi Dench, who had played M since 1995’s GoldenEye, lasted just three films before kicking it. And as we all know—spoiler alert, just in case you haven’t seen the end of Craig’s 007 journey—Bond himself met an explosive end in No Time to Die. It turns out you can thank Craig for both plot twists.Craig has been vocal about his desire to kill off 007 in the past, but in her new memoir, titled Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It?, Dame Judi Dench shared that he also had a hand in her own character's demise."I was taken to the Wolseley restaurant by Barbara [Broccoli], Michael [G. Wilson] and Sam [Mendes]—I don't think Daniel Craig was there—and they outlined the plot and told me they were going to bump me off," she revealed. But the crucial new information is this: "Apparently, it was Daniel's idea to have me killed," Dame Dench revealed.Ruthless stuff, but in fairness, it did result in one of the series's most impactful moments. Will the next Bond actor—which, of course, is an extremely hot conversation at the moment—get the same opportunity to decide his co-stars' fates? You would not have thought so. The next M, whoever it may be, can breathe a big sigh of relief.
