Sign in to your TheGamer account The driving force behind Nintendo wanting to remake The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is to give new fans, some who weren’t even born when the original was released, a modernized version of the game that they’re more likely to fall in love with. As some of those new fans have quickly discovered, that also means learning tougher lessons older fans had to learn 28 years ago. Don't Hurt The Cuccos! As much as the way we play games may have changed since the launch of the original Ocarina, there are some things that remain the same. One of those things is that you put a gamer into a virtual space with some hapless chickens, or cuccos since this is Zelda, those chickens are going to get messed with. Cuccos are a staple of the Zelda series, and you encounter them frequently in Ocarina of Time. Veterans know not to attack them, learning the hard way 28 years ago that doing so means they’ll attack you right back. Turns out that detail has been retained for the remake, and streamer IShowSpeed found out about the legendary detail the hard way. Less than two hours into a livestream of his Ocarina remake playthrough, Speed’s chat coaxed him into attacking a cucco. Upon being struck with Link’s sword, the cucco crows and summons all of its friends, which rain down from the sky, chipping away at your health, just like they did in Ocarina on the N64. There is no escape, so all Speed can do is panic and run around until his health has been depleted. Turns out that was the first time he died. I know that because he started screaming it at the chat who tricked him into hurting a cucco after the screen faded to black. Remake's Cuccos Are Already Racking Up Quite The Body Count Nintendo Don’t worry, Speed, you’re not the only new Zelda fan playing Ocarina for the first time this week who thought they could attack a cucco without paying for it dearly. Streamer Hika has also shared a clip where she dared to swing her sword at a cucco in Hyrule Castle Town, only to then feel the wrath of all of the avian victim’s feathered friends. “I must be the only one who didn’t know this was happening?” Hika’s tweet reads. No, Hika, turns out you’re not alone. There are so many people already playing the Ocarina remake that details regarding what has changed and what has remained faithful to the original have quickly been discovered. Cucco attacks have crossed the remake barrier. However, some of the references to other games, including Mario, have been removed as Nintendo didn’t want to disrupt the remake’s immersion.
