A Medusa Movie Isssssssss Coming From Disney

Between The Odyssey and Disney’s Percy Jackson show, Greek mythology is in the air at Hollywood. Surprisingly, Disney’s aiming to double dip and has set its sights on the one and only Medusa to get a solo movie. Per Deadline, Michael Montemayor, who co-wrote the upcoming Tangled remake, will write the script. This project comes via Seven Bucks, production company of Disney alum Dwayne Johnson, who the outlet notes currently isn’t involved. A fixture of Greek mythology and stories told within it, Medusa is one of three Gorgons who have the ability to petrify people into stone. Unlike her sisters Euryale and Stheno, she was mortal, and as such was able to be beheaded by Greek hero Perseus. Beyond appearing in media inspired by the myths, like Clash of the Titans (both versions), God of War, and Percy Jackson, she’s been around a lot in media—for example, Dusa from Hades is inspired by her, if not just actually her; and One Piece has a trio of Gorgon sisters who use the myth to claim they’re cursed as a cover for their Devil Fruit powers. Currently, all that’s known about Montemayor’s Medusa is that he’s looking to have a “very unique take” on her. Right now, that could mean anything, but the real question to ask is: since this’ll be a Disney movie, could songs be in the picture? Want more io9 news?
