Published Oct 13, 2026, 5:45 PM EDT An experienced Editor representing Canada via ScreenRant's Team Anime, J.R. has been reading manga since the first printing of Shonen Jump in North America. This passion drove him to write about anime, manga, and manhwa since 2022, having recently served as Lead Anime Editor for ComicBook.com. His favorite moments in media coverage include reviewing the series premieres of Zom 100 and Bleach: TYBW Part 2 back-to-back and briefly meeting Junji Ito at a VIZ gallery event in 2023. The era of Shonen Jump-branded manga and anime returns has grown more prolific lately, from the latest Naruto return to the cheeky final title card at the end of Dr. Stone's anime. In the latter's case, it was indeed "The End" while also sticking firmly to the "To Be Continued" tagline, as Dr. Stone's anime will return once more with Terraforming, likely set to flesh out the events of the final chapter 232.1 epilogue from the manga's 27th volume. Now, over nine years since the original Dr. Stone manga debut, the anime has the chance to fully flesh out its final pages. As Senku and the Kingdom of Science plan on rescuing the rest of humanity and what would go into making a time machine to do so, Dr. Stone Terraforming will explore the very next steps. With the series being billed as a sequel anime and announced by TOHO Animation to be in production, it's the best-case scenario as fans prepare to get excited for more adventures. Shonen Jump's Dr. Stone Anime Is Coming Back For New Sequel With the final scenes of Dr. Stone Science Future exploring the mystery of Why-Man and bringing the crew back to Earth ahead of Senku's grand plans to rescue humanity with a time machine, Terraforming already strongly indicates what's next to see. As seen in the epilogue chapter, fans will be treated to Senku's next steps needed to farm the necessary resources, but not without a survival detour at sea. Dr. Stone Terraforming could reasonably occupy the length of a roughly hour-long special anime film much like Tite Kubo's Burn the Witch or Tatsuki Fujimoto's Look Back did. It'll be produced by TMS much like the rest of the main anime, with Boichi's gorgeous art translating well to the screen, even if the animation isn't quite able to compete with the fluidity of other modern shows. Still, it's a thrilling announcement, and vindication for those left hanging by the "To Be Continued" promise at the end of Science Future. For those craving more creative applications of science, even just what was put to the page so far will certainly be sufficient entertainment. Warning: Read Ahead Only If You've Read Dr. Stone's Epilogue Chapter! Dr. Stone Terraforming Expands Senku's Enormous Ambitions With the already-lofty plans in place to build a time machine and save the rest of humanity's collective 7 billion people, and rewrite history to create a better future. But the sequel anime will start on a rough note with Senku, waking up adrift in the waters, having fallen out of a crashing airplane alongside other members of the Kingdom of Science, willingly petrifying themselves to prevent injuries or death while landing in the sea below. It turns out that Senku, Kohaku, and others on Taiju and Yuzuriha's post-wedding trip had landed themselves in the Bermuda Triangle, where they must act quickly to reunite with Luna and Xeno at the mainland. But that's not all, as Dr. Stone Terraforming will also lay out Senku's proposed next steps toward building a time machine, namely, how to get the enormous resources required for such a hypothetical device. He proposes going to space and colonizing other planets for exactly this purpose. Whether the anime will indeed show said terraforming is anybody's guess, but at the very least, fans will get to see Senku's brilliant mind in action as he brings his team back from the brink yet again to get home in Dr. Stone Terraforming.
