Sign in to your Collider account Netflix has become somewhat synonymous with great miniseries and limited shows in recent years. When time is short and you can’t commit to a long-drawn, multi-season saga, but you also want a story that feels just as fulfilling, these miniseries are exactly what the doctor ordered. And if you’re looking for a hearty weekend binge before returning to harsh Monday morning realities, there are a lot of great options to explore on the streaming service. Most of these miniseries are designed in a way that you can not only completely watch an entire show over just a weekend, but also feel satisfied with that experience. Though it is extremely unfair to select just a few titles from the streamer’s ever-growing library, the limited hours of a weekend demand only the choicest shows. From curiously crafted anthologies to an inventive manga adaptation, here’s our selection of Netflix miniseries you can watch in a weekend. 1 ‘Uzumaki’ (2024) Image via Adult Swim An anime adaptation of Junji Ito’s popular horror manga of the same name, Uzumaki is directed by Hiroshi Nagahama and follows a girl named Kirie and her boyfriend, Shuichi, who both live in a coastal town possessed by a spell of spirals that turns everyone and everything into the titular shape, including human bodies and the natural environment. As the curse expands and transforms everything into grotesque forms, the young couple try to find ways to escape or survive the supernatural nightmare. The series features voice performances by Uki Satake, Shin-ichiro Miki, and Mariya Ise. Uzumaki blurs the lines between body horror and existential dread and feels hypnotic and terrifying at the same time, demanding undivided attention. The Netflix anime is distinctly unique and deviates from mainstream anime conventions, with its black-and-white visual aesthetic and surreal narrative style. A contained horror story presented in just four episodes, Uzumaki has been widely praised for its masterful visuals and art style, particularly in the pilot episode, and for its faithfulness to the original manga, though it’s also been criticized for a dip in animation quality and rushed pacing in its later episodes. 2 ‘Bodies’ (2023) Image via Netflix Adapted by Paul Tomalin from Si Spencer’s DC Vertigo comics of the same name, Bodies is a British sci-fi mystery thriller spanning four different timelines, centered on an unidentified dead body that is discovered in the exact same location in London in four different eras. In every one, a determined detective sets out to investigate the murder, uncovering a time-and-space-bending conspiracy that threatens the future of human existence. The main characters are played by Stephen Graham, Jacob Fortune-Lloyd, Shira Haas, Amaka Okafor, and Kyle Soller. Set between the 1890s and 2053, Bodies is an exciting blend of historical fiction, period drama, futuristic sci-fi, and contemporary crime thriller. With each detective’s investigation influenced by their respective era, every episode offers a different genre style and storytelling format that keeps the miniseries unpredictable. Featuring plenty of compelling performances and a great visual style, Bodies is one of Netflix’s most satisfying hard-sci-fi shows. 3 ‘Cassandra’ (2025) Image via Netflix A Netflix original German sci-fi horror thriller series, Cassandra centers on a family who moves from the city to a retro-futuristic 1970s home, where they discover the titular housekeeping robot, who quickly becomes a part of the family. Reanimated after a long hibernation, Cassandra soon starts exhibiting dark behavior and a sinister agenda that unravels the family. Written and directed by Benjamin Gutsche, Cassandra stars Lavinia Wilson, Mina Tander, Joshua Kantara, Franz Hartwig, and Michael Klammer as the main characters. Cassandra is as thrilling as it is touching with its tragic tale of motherhood and a brilliant commentary on artificial intelligence. In every episode of this miniseries, various styles of sci-fi thriller, period drama, and slasher horror come together with elegant visuals and great music to deliver an intense show that you will want to binge non-stop. On its release, Cassandra earned overwhelming acclaim and the highest Rotten Tomatoes score possible, and it’s easily one of the best thriller shows released in 2025. REVEAL MY BEST FRIEND → The Group Chat Has Spoken Your Best Friend Is…Four Netflix characters, four completely different ways of showing up for somebody. This is the one who fits how you actually do friendship, and what having them in your life would be like. Dustin HendersonYou do not do friendship at half volume, and neither does he. What you want is somebody who says yes to the plan before you have finished describing the plan. Dustin is the friend the entire show runs on: loyal past the point of sense, enthusiastic about everything, and incapable of leaving anybody behind. You have the same instinct. Your friendships are loud, specific and slightly ridiculous, and they last for decades because of it. He is also the one person who would take your strangest interest completely seriously, which is far rarer than it sounds. You would have a group chat. It would never once be quiet. Emily CooperYou are the friend who makes things happen, and so is she. Together you would be mildly exhausting to everyone around you and completely delighted with yourselves. Emily treats an ordinary Tuesday as something that could be turned into an occasion, which is either the best or the worst quality in a friend depending on your energy levels. You share her refusal to sit still. Neither of you has ever accepted a night in when something was happening somewhere else. She is far more loyal than people give her credit for. She defends her friends loudly, publicly, and occasionally before checking the facts. She would post the photo without asking. You would forgive her, because it is a very good photo. Wednesday AddamsYou have no patience for pleasant lies, and she has no ability to tell them. What looks like coldness from the outside is the most reliable friendship on this list. Wednesday never says a kind thing she does not mean, which makes the rare ones count for an enormous amount. You would rather be told the truth than be made comfortable. She is constitutionally incapable of offering you anything else. Underneath all of it she is ferociously protective. She simply refuses to make a performance out of caring. Do not expect a birthday message. Do expect her to ruin anyone who wrongs you. Seong Gi-hunYou look after whoever is having the worst day. So does he. It is the least strategic way to move through the world and the best possible quality in a friend. Gi-hun is not the strongest player in Squid Game, or the cleverest. He is the one who keeps choosing to protect somebody else, over and over, at genuine cost to himself. You have the same instinct. You notice who is struggling and you stay with them, long after anybody would blame you for leaving. He is a flawed friend, and that is part of why it lands. He lets people down, then comes back and tries again, which is more than most manage. He would give you his last chance and never once mention that he had done it. ↻ RETAKE THE QUIZ 4 ‘Unorthodox’ (2019) Image via Netflix Created by Anna Winger and Alexa Karolinski, Unorthodox is a highly acclaimed, award-winning German miniseries that tells the story of 19-year-old Esther “Esty” Shapiro, who belongs to an ultra-conservative Hasidic Jewish community in Brooklyn. Deeply unhappy with her arranged marriage, Esty escapes her home and country and flees to Berlin to start a new life, but her husband and her past soon follow her. Shira Haas and Amit Rahav star as the couple, with Alex Reid, Jeff Wilbusch, and Lili Rosen as other key characters. Unorthodox gained recognition as Netflix’s first Yiddish-language original and earned critical acclaim for Haas’s captivating performance as Esty. The Netflix original is loosely based on a memoir by Deborah Feldman, Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots, and is delicate with its translation of the original material. Inspiring and moving, Esty's struggles and achievements as she sets out to find herself make for the perfect story to watch on a cozy weekend. 5 ‘Archive 81’ (2022) Image via Netflix Based on Daniel Powell and Marc Sollinger’s podcast of the same name, Archive 81 is a supernatural horror miniseries developed by Rebecca Sonnenshine that centers on a man named Dan, who is tasked with examining old videotapes from 1994. After he discovers footage recorded by a grad student named Melody for her film project, Dan finds himself in the middle of a horrific mystery involving a disappearance and a secret cult. Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi star as Dan and Melody, with Julia Chan, Matt McGorry, and Martin Donovan in other notable roles. Scary and intriguing, Archive 81 is a high-concept mystery horror show that combines crime noir, supernatural, and cult horror elements into an intelligent narrative. Canceled after just one season, the show essentially works like a miniseries and is perfect if you are seeking a quick dose of supernatural thrills that will not last beyond Sunday night. Archive 81 is highly praised for its writing, acting, and satisfying storytelling that captures everything needed for a good horror experience, including the much-debated cliffhanger. 6 ‘Godless’ (2017) Image via Netflix Created by Scott Frank, Godless is a critically acclaimed Western miniseries that follows a young outlaw in the late 1800s who defects from his gang and runs off to a remote New Mexico settlement inhabited primarily by women, seeking refuge with an outcast widow. After his former gang leader follows him and terrorizes the town, the women of the town set out to protect the young outlaw and their homes. Michelle Dockery, Scoot McNairy, Merritt Wever, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, and Tantoo Cardinal star as the key characters. Godless seamlessly combines classic Western traditions with a deep character-driven drama, anchored by stellar performances. With sweeping, rugged vistas and violent Western action, the show is truly a delightful watch, turning every episode of the Netflix miniseries into a thrilling exploration of an alternate Old West that you would love to binge. On its release, Godless was widely acclaimed for its production values and strong cast, and it easily ranks among the best Western miniseries streaming on Netflix. 7 ‘Human Vapor’ (2026) Image Via Netflix A Japanese-South Korean show written by Yeon Sang-ho and Ryu Yong-jae and directed by Shinzo Katayama, Human Vapor is a Netflix series adaptation of the 1960 film by Ishirō Honda and Takeshi Kimura. After he turns himself into a gaseous form and kills a man on live television, the titular protagonist threatens everyone involved with a mysterious organization, while a detective and his ex-girlfriend run parallel investigations of the murders. The series stars Shun Oguri, Yu Aoi, Suzu Hirose, Kento Hayashi, Uta, and Yutaka Takenouchi in main roles. Human Vapor is a slick sci-fi conspiracy thriller packed with body horror, tense atmosphere, and sharp socio-political satire. A summer 2026 release, the miniseries has received high acclaim for its production values and ranks among the best Japanese shows on Netflix. Sure to remind fans of shows like Hellbound, which was also created and written by Yeon Sang-ho, Human Vapor is a moody and high-octane series featuring standout practical and digital effects that will let your weekend zoom past before you realize it. 8 ‘Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities’ (2022) Image via Netflix Guillermo del Toro’s horror anthology miniseries Cabinet of Curiosities is a collection of curious, bizarre horror stories, personally curated by the Oscar-winning auteur, where he opens one curious section after another of his cabinet. Every story in the eight-part series comes from acclaimed directors like David Prior, Catherine Hardwicke, and Ana Lily Amirpour, with del Toro writing two of the stories. Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities features a different star-studded cast in each episode, including Tim Blake Nelson, F. Murray Abraham, and Rupert Grint in notable roles. Reportedly inspired by Rod Serling’s Night Gallery, Cabinet of Curiosities features all the hallmarks of classic Gothic and Grand Guignol traditions. When it premiered in 2022, the horror anthology was widely acclaimed for its direction, cast, and remarkable practical effects, though also criticized for its pacing. Described as sophisticated and horrific at the same time, Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities is a great anthology that offers a different flavor of macabre with each episode, and it’s a perfect weekend watch.
