This October, the beloved Peanuts have proven that they still hold a special place in people's hearts. The 76-year-old comic strip franchise created by Charles Schulz has delivered many lovely TV specials, in addition to its long-running flagship comic strip and a handful of feature-length movies. As Charlie Brown and co. prepare for a couple of big returns in different formats, the holiday specials are seeing an expected resurgence. Charlie Brown Is Thoroughly Dominating Apple TV Apple TV has laid claim to the streaming rights for the catalog of Peanuts TV specials, and right now, two of the franchise's biggest holiday specials ever are dominating the streaming charts. As of October 31, per FlixPatrol, 1966's It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is the no. 1 movie on Apple TV in the U.S., having spent 202 days in the Top 10. 1973's A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is at no. 4, on a 267-day streak. Charlie Brown's television tenure began with the first-ever Peanuts TV special, A Charlie Brown Christmas, which premiered in 1965 (close to 60 years ago). This episode, and its Halloween and Thanksgiving counterparts mentioned above, remain the most famous Peanuts holiday specials. It is likely that A Charlie Brown Christmas will also start to climb the streaming charts as the holiday season progresses. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown takes its name from Linus' storyline, as he embarks on his yearly quest to find the best pumpkin patch so he may witness the arrival of the Great Pumpkin's (a Halloween-themed Santa Claus he believes in). Meanwhile, the rest of the gang goes trick-or-treating. In A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Peppermint Patty invites herself and several friends over to Charlie Brown's house for Thanksgiving dinner. The Peanuts Franchise Is About To Return In A Big Way This evidence that the tradition of revisiting the Peanuts specials during the holidays is alive and well is a good sign for the franchise going into 2027, when the characters will return to the movies and the stage. Namely, Apple TV is releasing its first full-length Peanuts movie, and the first movie for the franchise in more than a decade, in 2027. The movie is called Snoopy Unleashed. Its predecessor, 2015's The Peanuts Movie, currently has an 87% Rotten Tomatoes score and grossed $246 million on a budget of 99 million, per Box Office Mojo. Not the biggest commercial success, Apple TV will now see how a new Peanuts movie will do on streaming, where it has a strong audience. This was also the Peanuts' first foray into 3D computer animation; Snoopy Unleashed will also be in this medium. A star-studded revival of the musical You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown will also be in New York City for a short time in February 2027, featuring the likes of David Hyde Pierce, Danielle Brooks, and Ayo Edebiri. People still love coming back to the Peanuts each year, and while the classics may simply do better because of nostalgia, it indicates potential interest in what is to come. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving are available to stream on Apple TV.
