Chinese EV maker Chery is preparing to expand its Jetour Zongheng off-road lineup with the R700, a boxy SUV expected to make its public debut at the 2026 Guangzhou Auto Show on November 27. The new model reportedly shares its ladder-frame platform with the larger G700, whose plug-in hybrid powertrain produces a combined 892 hp and 837 lb-ft of torque. The R700 was previously shown in a restricted viewing area at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show in April, offering an early look at a two-row design. Although Chery has yet to publish its technical specifications, the reported platform connection suggests that the SUV could draw on technology developed for the G700. The company has not confirmed whether the two models will share the same powertrain, battery, or off-road equipment. Peek inside power engine The reported platform relationship makes the G700 a useful technical reference, although it does not confirm that the R700 will receive identical hardware. The 2027 Jetour G700 uses Chery’s Kunpeng Super Hybrid CDM-O plug-in hybrid system, which combines a a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with electric motors, according to reports. The system delivers a combined 892 hp and 837 lb-ft of torque, allowing the G700 to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in a claimed 4.6 seconds. Its 59.45 kWh CATL battery provides more than 162 miles of electric range under China’s CLTC testing cycle. The G700 also comes with front and rear differential locks, a central energy lock, multiple terrain modes, and air suspension. These features support its positioning as a large off-road SUV, but Chery has not disclosed which components will carry over to the R700. The battery and electric range figures also illustrate the capabilities of the platform’s existing hybrid architecture. However, the R700 could receive a different configuration depending on its size, weight, and intended market position. Furthermore, its upcoming debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show should provide the first public look at the production model, along with more concrete information about its powertrain, equipment, and market positioning. Cues from mid-size SUV The R700 reportedly takes its styling cues from the Jetour Zongheng G600 concept, which previewed the brand’s off-road design direction in 2025. Its exterior features an upright profile, high hood and closed front fascia, with a full-width LED light bar connecting C-shaped headlight clusters. The sides feature roof rails, fixed boarding steps, and a floating-roof treatment. At the rear, an octagonal exterior storage box replaces the more conventional tailgate-mounted spare wheel, while vertical taillights frame the assembly. The G700 also provides a reference point for the technology Chery could offer in the R700. Its cabin features a 35.4-inch panoramic display, a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8255 processor. Higher-specification G700 versions additionally feature Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 driver assistance and an 896-line dual-optical-path LiDAR system. Chery has not confirmed whether the R700 will receive the same equipment or use a different cockpit and driver-assistance package.
