Police have seized 520 kg of marijuana and three vehicles used to smuggle the contraband in a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district. Four traffickers have been arrested in connection with the seizures, while one suspect remains on the run.The combined value of the seized marijuana and vehicles has been estimated at around Rs 3 crore, police said. The action was carried out under 'Operation Aaghat', an ongoing police campaign against the trafficking of illegal narcotics.494 KG MARIJUANA SEIZED IN KUNKURIPolice recovered 494 kg of marijuana in two separate operations.In the first operation, police intercepted a Bolero pickup truck without a registration number and seized 246 kg of marijuana. Two accused, both residents of Bihar, were arrested in connection with the seizure. In another case, police recovered 248 kg of marijuana from a Kia Seltos car. However, the driver managed to flee after spotting the police and is currently being traced.TWO ARRESTED WITH 26 KG MARIJUANAIn a separate operation, police acted on a tip-off and searched a Swift Dzire car, recovering 26 kg of marijuana. Kamal Kishore Ojha and Anita Soni, both residents of Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh, were arrested from the spot. Anita Soni is among the four people arrested in the three operations.CONSIGNMENT WAS BEING TAKEN FROM ODISHA TO UTTAR PRADESHPreliminary interrogation of the accused revealed that the marijuana consignment was allegedly being transported from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh.Police are now investigating the wider smuggling network to identify the suppliers and recipients connected to the consignment.SP Dr Lal Umed Singh said police had apprehended major drug traffickers during operations carried out across different police station areas in Jashpur district.He said the campaign against the trafficking of illegal narcotics would continue and strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the drug trade.Cases have been registered against all the accused and further investigation is underway.- EndsPublished On: Aug 28, 2026 22:13 IST
