With a mix of holiday adventures and prestige plays, there is something for everyone on this eclectic list. The first film features a dog and Christmas, so naturally, families will love it. The next movie is the first film from an award-winning director since 2018. The third selection on this list stars an Academy Award-winning actress in an intriguing mystery. Next up is an animated spin on a classic fairy tale. The final movie coming to Netflix in the U.S. is based on a book about World War II. This list presents the movies in the order of their release. A Dog's Perfect Christmas Some holiday cheer Of all the streamers, I would argue that Netflix consistently puts out the best slate of Christmas movies each year. Nothing wrong with a cheesy rom-com or family-friendly saga around the holidays. A Dog's Perfect Christmas falls into the latter category. The film hails from two writers who worked on A Dog's Purpose and A Dog's Journey. Widower Sander (Dennis Quaid) has a fractured relationship with his granddaughter Ello (Brooke Lena Johnson). After a medical emergency, the Goss family finds itself in peril. Enter two dogs: Winstead (voiced by Thomas Haden Church), Sander's basset hound, and a new corgi, Ruby, to help cheer everybody up and spread some cheer. Here's a spoiler, but I think it's important: No dogs die in this movie. We couldn't have another devastating dog movie like Marley & Me on our hands. A Dog's Perfect Christmas is now streaming. Possible Love The return of an acclaimed filmmaker An eight-year gap between movies is too long for a filmmaker like Lee Chang-dong. The South Korean filmmaker has directed only six feature films prior to Possible Love. 2018's Burning became the first Korean film to make the shortlist for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. Lee's latest movie, Possible Love, has a shot to make the shortlist again for the Oscars. Possible Love centers on two married couples: Mi-ok (Jeon Do-yeon) and Ho-seok (Sul Kyung-gu), and Ye-ji (Cho Yeo-jeong) and Sang-woo (Zo In-sung). Ye-ji, a documentarian making a movie about laid-off workers, films Mi-ok's family because Ho-seok was laid off. Mi-ok didn't expect to form a strong connection with Sang-woo. There are some interesting class dynamics at play, and the relationship drama features some of the year's best performances. Possible Love streams on Nov. 6. Possible Love Release Date October 23, 2026 Runtime 165 minutes Director Lee Chang-dong Heartland A country singer hunts for the truth Oscar winner Jessica Chastain previously played a country singer in George & Tammy, a miniseries that you can finish in one sitting on Paramount+. Chastain thrived in the role of Tammy Wynette, earning an Emmy Award nomination in the process. Chastain is returning to those country roots in Heartland, but this movie is more of a thriller than a biopic. Misty Jones (Chastain) once ruled the country music scene, but now, she's been living in seclusion. When Charlie Heart (Carter Faith), her niece and a rising star in country music, goes missing, Misty heads back to Nashville to conduct her own investigation. The movie operates on a "this town changed since you left, and you're not welcome here" premise. Chastain's Misty is the outcast willing to shake things up. Heartland streams on Nov. 13. Heartland Release Date November 13, 2026 Director Shana Feste Writers Shana Feste Steps Cinderella with a twist Can Netflix make it two consecutive years in which an animated hit takes over pop culture? In 2025, KPop Demon Hunters became Netflix's biggest movie of all time. I don't expect Steps to reach those historic heights, but if well-received, it could become one of the streamer's most-watched movies of the year. Steps is a new spin on Cinderella, the fairy tale about the titular character who becomes a princess with help from her fairy godmother. Cinderella (Amanda Seyfried) is in Steps, but the story focuses on the future princess's stepsisters, Lilith (Ali Wong) and Margot (Stephanie Hsu). After Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand, she accidentally turns Margot into a frog. Meanwhile, the evil Priscilla takes the throne from Cinderella. Lilith and Cinderella must now work together to save the kingdom. Steps streams on Nov. 20. Steps Release Date November 20, 2026 Director Alyce Tzue, John Ripa Writers Ava Tramer, James Madejski, Jen Chuck, Dana Schwartz, Felicia Ho Producers Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell, Kim Lessing The Mosquito Bowl Football and war Peter Berg might be the most qualified filmmaker to direct The Mosquito Bowl. Berg has experience with two subjects: football and war. Berg directed Friday Night Lights and developed its subsequent television adaptation. He's also helmed the war drama Lone Survivor. The Mosquito Bowl is the merging of Berg's two interests. Plus, Berg's second cousin is Buzz Bissinger, who wrote the book The Mosquito Bowl. In World War II, several of the top college football players in the country put their athletic careers on hold to enlist in the Marines. While stationed on Guadalcanal and preparing for The Battle of Okinawa, the Marines squared off in a football game on Christmas Eve in 1944. For many of the soldiers, it would be the last football game they ever played. If you can't wait for this traumatic war movie to hit Netflix, it's playing in select theaters. The Mosquito Bowl streams on Nov. 25. The Mosquito Bowl Release Date October 30, 2026 Runtime 127 Minutes Director Peter Berg More Netflix content to check out When one of the best thrillers of the last 35 years is on Netflix, you have to watch. Of course, I'm speaking of Heat, Michael Mann's masterpiece starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. As for Netflix documentaries, try The One About Matthew Perry and Paralyzed by Hope: The Maria Bamford Story. Subscription with ads Yes, $8/month Simultaneous streams Two or four
