5 MCU Heroes Who Should Team Up With Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider

With Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider on his way to the big screen, the possibilities for exciting superhero team-ups in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have greatly expanded. Johnny Blaze is traditionally a solo hero, having headlined his own title off and on, going back to the 1970s. However, like all major Marvel heroes, he's enjoyed his fair share of alliances with other icons of its world. Some of these team-ups could very well be realized in the MCU. While it makes sense to assume that Ghost Rider will be on his own in his MCU debut, that's not exactly a foregone conclusion. After all, Marvel Studios has paired Spider-Man with at least one other major MCU hero outside his corner of the Marvel Universe in all four of his solo movies. With that in mind, it's hardly outside the realm of possibility that Marvel offers a similar scenario for Ghost Rider's first MCU adventure. Even if that doesn't happen, huge MCU team-ups would still be very much on the table for Ryan Gosling's character. A Ghost Rider sequel could add a second hero to the cast to generate further hype. Alternately, Marvel could thrust Ghost Rider into another superhero's film. A third possibility is that Marvel Studios finally assembles its own take on the Midnight Sons, a team of supernatural characters that sometimes includes Ghost Rider. Either way, there's plenty of appealing options Marvel has at its disposal over the next several years. 5 Werewolf By Night Many of Ghost Rider's traditional allies already exist in the MCU, although some have uncertain futures. One of which is Jack Russell, Marvel's flagship werewolf character. Played by Gael Garcia Bernal, Jack Russell appeared as the principal protagonist of Marvel's 2023 Disney+ Halloween special, Werewolf by Night. As it stands, there are no known plans to bring Russell back, but the MCU's Ghost Rider movie could provide the MCU with an additional reason to revisit the character. Due to both sharing supernatural roots, Marvel has found numerous opportunities to unite them, with the two first serving members of the original lineup of the Legion of Monsters in the 1976 comic, Marvel Premiere #28. As two of Marvel's scariest monsters, Ghost Rider and Werewolf by Night could join forces for a suspense-filled, horror-themed adventure. Meeting Jack Russell could offer a worthwhile, personal arc for Ghost Rider too. Much like the hosts of Zarathos, his monstrous form stems from an evil curse. The key difference, which Jack could make a point of to Ghost Rider, is that he didn't ask for his. Werewolf by Night's curse was inherited, rather than the result of his own mistake. 4 Man-Thing In a similar category as Werewolf by Night is Man-Thing, who was introduced to the MCU in the same Disney+ special as Jack Russell. In Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing a.k.a "Ted" was the mysterious creature and friend of Jack Russell who had become a target of the monster hunters. In the comic books, Man-Thing is one of Marvel's most prominent monsters. Man-Thing and Ghost Rider's abilities are considerably different, but they do share one thing in common, which is how they affect their foes pyschologically. Man-Thing burns people afraid of them alive at the touch (as seen in Werewolf by Night), whereas Ghost Rider weaponizes a person's own sinister deeds to inflict harm upon them with his Penance Stare. Man-Thing's good nature could be juxtaposed nicely with Ghost Rider's considerably more deliberate efforts to combat evil. 3 Spider-Man Tom Holland's Spider-Man has joined forces with one superhero after another, sharing the screen with the likes of Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Captain America, and most recently, the Hulk and the Punisher. Ghost Rider is sure to become of the strongest candidates to keep that trend alive once he officially joins the MCU. His stories are different both thematically and tonally from Spider-Man's, but looking at how Marvel seamlessly wove the typically more mature Frank Castle into a Spider-Man story, Ghost Rider showing up in one isn't out of the question. Spider-Man and Ghost Rider's team-ups in the comics provide a great deal of material for the MCU to work with in that regard. One of the variations of the Green Goblin is the Demogoblin. Given his demonic origins and ties to the Green Goblin's legacy, the Demogoblin is a natural foe of both characters. Plus, he'd give the MCU a way to do something fresh with the Green Goblin concept. 2 Hulk Another intriguing team-up option for Ghost Rider is the Hulk, whom Johnny Blaze has encountered on multiple occasions in the comics. Pairing these two carries a lot of potential, and that extends beyond the thrill of seeing them fight side by side. If the two were to meet in a movie, there's a good chance it - like so many other superhero team-ups - would begin with a one-on-one showdown between the two, allowing Marvel to craft an exciting action sequence that pits hellfire against sheer brute force. In their first meeting, Ghost Rider found himself in a rare situation where he was faced with what seemed like an unconquerable opponent. But despite Hulk outmatching him tremendously in strength, his hellfire proved to be a force even the Hulk himself couldn't resist. On the big screen, this combination could be utilized to create one of the strongest and deadliest duos in MCU history. With Marvel seemingly content with having Hulk simply make guest appearances in other characters' movies, putting him in a Ghost Rider film feels like a sensible move. And, it would give Marvel a chance to explore the darker and more supernatural side of the Hulk that Marvel Comics has been delving into over the last several years, via its Immortal Hulk comic book series. 1 Doctor Strange Of all the characters who make sense for a Ghost Rider team-up in the MCU's future, none are more deserving than the Sorcerer Supreme. Doctor Strange may not be his first ally, but he's had more appearances alongside Ghost Rider (particularly the Johnny Blaze version) than any other character. Their storied relationship kicked off in the pages of Ghost Rider #29 when Dormammu manipulated the pair into fighting. It culminated in a superhero team-up with a fun twist; Johnny Blaze's consciousness took control of Doctor Strange's body and joined forces with the latter's astral form to do battle with Dormammu, who had taken possession of Ghost Rider. Johnny Blaze and Doctor Strange gradually developed into close allies, and the alliance even lasted beyond Blaze's time as Ghost Rider. Having served as longtime members of the supernatural team known as the Midnight Sons, Ghost Rider and Doctor Strange have worked together to defeat a long list of powerful enemies, including Zodiak, Lilith, and Mephisto. Doctor Strange deals with a wide array of problems in his comics, with demons being one particular area that he shares with Ghost Rider. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness took the character in this direction as well, but kept most of the story's focus on fighting Scarlet Witch and the concept of the multiverse. It's possible that a Doctor Strange sequel could put the attention squarely on a demonic villain, which could pull Ghost Rider into his orbit. Such an adventure could be how the MCU fully brings Chthon into the picture.
