Thankfully, PlayStation will often have quite a few games that are free-to-play, at least at some level, if you know where to look. This weekend, it may be worth checking out a couple of these gems from the $0 section of the PlayStation Store. The Legend Of Fireball The Legend of Fireball is a casual adventure sim where you work your way from just one small fireball to the ability to blast through massive buildings. As a young fireball fighter in training, you begin by breaking simple objects and level up your stats to take on bigger targets. With each upgrade and level unlock, the game becomes even more challenging, with timers nudging you forward to destroy the required number of targets before it's game over. Whether you're working on boosting your Fireball Power or Stamina, or trying to get stylish costumes and loyal pets, there are plenty of goals to tackle here. Pet companions can allow you to create a team of Light and Dark Family pets and bring up to three of them with you while attacking. Their skills can help make your fireball blasting even more fun. You can actually find this first game on several platforms, not just PlayStation, and despite its free price tag, it has over one thousand ratings that put it at about a 3.5 out of 5. If you enjoy the game enough, there are also several options to purchase the game for anywhere between $8 and $20, which will give you additional goodies such as pets, gems, auto fire, and more, but none are necessary to enjoy the base game. Bag Fight Bag Fight is a unique take on deckbuilding roguelites, where everything you can use to help survive each level is limited to what you can fit in your bag. Each run you can unlock new gear, get stronger, and even merge weapons to create stronger versions. While the colorful enemies are certainly a challenge, the true battle here is with your inventory management skills. Your bag isn't very large, and it must hold any weapons, items, and anything else you wish to take with you on your run through each level, where you are faced with a variety of monsters like slimes and zombies. You can choose between several different heroes with their own baseline stats, and fighting follows a fast-paced real-time combat mechanic. The Standard Edition of Bag Fight is a free digital download for the PS5. Then, if you like the game and want to support the devs or just get more into the world, there are several optional editions and add-ons. You can purchase either the Starter Pack for $13.99 or the Deluxe Edition at $35.99. Or, you can grab specific add-ons like the Newman Pack or bags of gems ranging from anywhere between $0.99 and $49.99. Bag Fight is also available on many other platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Steam, and even Google Play. Spellfarers Steam Page For multiplayer magic, perhaps Spellfarers is something to try. This game just released about a month ago in June 2026 and doesn't have a lot of reviews just yet. It is currently free-to-play, with several optional add-on packs available to purchase if you enjoy the game enough to want to spend between $4.99 to $49.99 on it. Spellfarers is a magic-infused world where you can craft, build, farm, and cast spells with your friends, all living in the charming world of Wenngrove. As a young witch sent to investigate the disappearance of a fellow magic researcher, you get to work towards unraveling the secrets hidden in Wenngrove, as well as the mysterious spellbook she left behind. Though it is an MMO (multiplayer) game, you can also play solo if you prefer. The cozy, laid-back vibes of the game allow you to have your own Homestead plot to decorate and farm on, and you can even cook and host parties for friends in between shooting ogres in the woods. The vibrant graphics and cottagecore feel of the game lend itself well to the warm summer months as we slowly begin to look towards the more magical autumn months, and there's enough in this game that could keep you and your friends coming back for quite a while. NTE: Neverness To Everness For fans of open-world JRPGs, NTE: Neverness to Everness may be the perfect hook. Free to download and start playing, the game does use quite a few optional in-game microtransactions that can add up quickly, so beware if you're looking to watch your budget. However, if you are careful to stick to the free content, this game with 4.22 stars from over 25,000 ratings is a lot of fun. NTE gives you a look into a world where humans and supernaturals coexist, and not everything is as it should be. Playing as an unlicensed Anomaly Hunter in this supernatural open-world RPG, you get to know the streets of the city Hethereau while completing missions in the sprawling metropolis. Of course, the RPG also features characters with different skills, called Esper Abilities, and a lot of common hack and slash gameplay mechanics. Class types are split into gas, solid, liquid, plasma, and synthesis in this unique world, and different strengths can work well when facing different anomalies in the city. Buffet Boss This next game is actually free for both PS4 and PS5 users, at least for the Standard Edition of the game, and is recommended with 4.05/5 stars from nearly 2,000 ratings. Buffet Boss is a fast-paced, yet casual, restaurant simulation game where players start as a humble entrepreneur and grow their business until they have become a culinary empire. Despite looking quite a bit like other PS5 multiplayer games such as Overcooked, Buffet Boss is a single-player game with no option for playing with friends either online or locally. Working with NPCs, you alone are in charge of this business. Cook meals, train staff, keep everything clean, and work on upgrading everything from the kitchen and equipment to the restaurant itself. Of course, as you level up, everything becomes even more challenging to keep you on your toes. If you find yourself enjoying it enough, you can add on new levels that add Mexican, Sushi, and Bakery content to the game for only $2.99 each, or save time and get the Complete Edition, which includes everything, for only $7.99. For those of us who like our achievements and trophies, Buffet Boss does offer a pretty easy Platinum Trophy on the PlayStation 5 too, which could also add to its appeal.
