400 missing mobile phones recovered from various States, handed over to owners

The mobile phones recovered by the Triplicane police. The Triplicane police have recovered 400 mobile phones reported missing from various police stations’ limits in the Triplicane police district. The phones, which were traced to different States across India, were handed over to their rightful owners on Thursday.Complaints regarding missing mobile phones were received at police stations under the Triplicane police district and entered in the Community Service Register. The Cyber Crime Wing and special teams of the Triplicane police subsequently launched an investigation to trace the devices.As part of the investigation, police used the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal to track the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers of the missing and stolen phones. Continued monitoring revealed that several of the devices were being used in Tamil Nadu and other States.Police teams then traced the persons using the phones and conducted inquiries, following which the missing devices were recovered. A total of 400 mobile phones were recovered and the ownership details were verified before they were returned.At the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Triplicane district, in Chintadripet. Deputy Commissioner Jayachandran handed over the recovered mobile phones to their respective owners.The police advised the public to lodge a complaint at the nearest police station and register the device on the CEIR portal immediately if a mobile phone is lost or stolen.
