18 Stunning Cosplay Outfits From Japan’s Comiket Convention

Comiket is the twice-yearly convention in Tokyo dedicated to doujinshi, or self-published manga, novels and magazines. Japan has thousands of such conventions, but Comiket is far and away the largest, and has seen as many as 750,000 attend. The event, naturally, also draws in a large number of cosplayers, and where they appear, so do Kotaku‘s intrepid photographers, Mineralblu. Below we have a video of the event and a gallery of some of the most impressive outfits on the show floor. Comiket’s colossal numbers took a hefty hit from Covid, with the event being cancelled in 2020, the year after it saw 730,000 and 750,000 show up to the summer and winter gatherings, with 2021’s more modest conventions peaking at 170,000. However, by 2025 those figures were rising again with 300,000 in attendance, and 2026’s numbers look like they could be higher. The cosplay, thankfully, also continues to grow ever more impressive. With the emphasis here more on fiction rather than games, this is a more anime-influenced selection than others, although League of Legends, Yakuza, and Street Fighter are well-represented here alongside Fate/Grand Order. The HoyoVerse titles Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero are also in the mix.
