The Multiverse Saga is currently getting close to finishing one of its remaining TV shows, with VisionQuest serving as the finale to the WandaVision trilogy. Throughout the whole season, the spinoff series have made various nods and callbacks to the larger mythology that began all the way back in 2008 with Iron Man. In ScreenRant's VisionQuest cover story with Liam Crowley, showrunner Terry Matalas was asked about the major reveal of Jim Hammond, a.k.a. the Synthetic Man in episode 7, with Paul Bettany taking on another role in the franchise. As the story established that Phineas Horton created the first robot to honor his son, thus the connections to Vision, the executive producer elaborated on whether this was something he and Kevin Feige collaborated on from the Easter egg in Captain America: The First Avenger, or if it came to fruition organically within the creative team. Matalas said, "No, that came up in the writers' room as we were digging in. I knew from lore that Vision was created from parts and components of Jim Hammond in the comic books. And even though there was a different kind of creation in the MCU, what if some of his source code came from Jim Hammond?" He continued by sharing "that shone a beacon on another kind of family story; a generational story where you have the grandfather of AI and his missteps as a father, not being able to connect to his creation, and that being passed down to Ultron and Vision through this code that Josephine Carrington wrote." For the writers behind the VisionQuest TV show, the showrunner "felt like we were telling this big family story. There was a family tree being built as we were making the show." Jim was briefly seen in Captain America: The First Avenger when Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes were attending Stark EXPO during 1943. It wasn't until the WandaVision offshoot that the android got re-explored and given its biggest exposure yet. - Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order. Following the events of VisionQuest episode 7, the finale still has a lot of other questions to answer, and time will tell if there may be additional payoffs for other established MCU references from previous phases. As far as what is next for some of the characters, while season 2 is not necessarily moving forward, Matalas told Crowley how he would love to explore them in new projects. When Crowley asked the TV boss if he would be open to potentially doing an Avengers: The Children's Crusade adaptation, he stressed that "I would love nothing more than to keep playing in the sandbox. Vision and Ultron and the Maximoff family are part of my DNA now. They're part of my beating heart." For now, time will tell what Marvel Studios and Disney+ end up doing after Phase 6, as the TV strategy for the MCU is being retooled for Phase 7 and beyond. VisionQuest will release episode 8 on Tuesday, November 10, at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on Disney+.
