Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave gives you four Part 1 paths, large casts to train and a wide range of systems competing for your free time. The good news is that progress on one path can make the others much faster, while characters recruited more than once can eventually combine what they learned across different routes. These 12 beginner tips will help you spend your time efficiently, develop a useful army and make the most of each Flame Lord's unique abilities. Complete Notable Deeds To Strengthen Every Path Completing Notable Deeds awards Karma Shards, which can be spent on Boons of Salvation at the Shrine of Causality. Unlike most route-specific progress, Boons apply across all four paths. That makes them one of the best long-term investments available. A reward earned while playing one Flame Lord can make the next path easier, so check your Milestones regularly instead of treating them as optional achievements. Prioritize Experience Bonuses Before Starting Later Paths The most influential Boons are the large experience boosts. A first Part 1 path takes around 20 hours, but subsequent paths can move much faster once these bonuses are active. If you intend to complete all four paths, prioritize universal progression bonuses early. They reduce the time spent catching up new armies and let later routes reach their more interesting classes and abilities sooner. Explore Other Settlements For Licenses During the early hours of the game, you'll find that the License Vendor in Dagsion can be quite stingy, especially when you unlock a new tier of classes to experiment with. It's very easy to find yourself completely out of the items and with a large army you want to push into their new classes. Licenses are also sold in other Settlements! Be sure to check their inventories on the world map by hitting the ZL button while hovering over them to be sure that it has what you're looking for, though. Train Duplicate Recruits Differently The same recruit can join you on more than one Part 1 path. If you plan to use that character in Part 3, avoid giving every version an identical build. Train one version in a mounted class, another along a different weapon line, or use separate routes to collect different mastery abilities. Part 3's Merge Causality system can then add useful classes, abilities, combat arts, skill levels and higher stats to the final version of that unit. Do Not Try To Develop Everyone Equally Each path gives you more characters than you can develop at exactly the same pace. Establish a dependable core team for main battles, then use spare training opportunities to prepare specialists and future recruits. This does not mean ignoring the rest of the roster. Instead, focus your best resources on units with clear jobs: durable front-line fighters, mobile attackers, ranged damage and reliable healing or support. Each Flame Lord has distinctive Blaze Arts capable of changing a difficult battle, but using them costs HP. That price can leave the Lord vulnerable immediately after producing a spectacular result. Check enemy ranges before activating one. Have a healer ready, move the Lord out of danger where possible, or use the art when its effect will remove the enemies capable of retaliating. A Blaze Art is most valuable when its HP cost does not create another crisis. Plan Free Time Around A Clear Goal Part 1 alternates main battles with limited free-time turns on the world map. Before moving, decide what the current period needs to accomplish: recruiting a particular unit, improving a key weapon rank, gathering a resource or reaching a quest objective. Trying to do a little of everything can leave several tasks unfinished. Complete the actions that unlock characters or lasting progression first, then spend remaining turns on general training and supplies. Use Route Switching To Avoid Repeating The Same Grind Once changing paths becomes available, you do not have to finish one Part 1 before touching another. Moving between the four stories can keep their armies at similar stages and lets you take advantage of newly unlocked universal bonuses. There is also nothing wrong with completing one route at a time. Whichever approach you prefer, remember that later paths should become faster; you do not need to repeat your first route's exact routine four times. Cai's Path — Make Time For Beast Taming Cai's unique map ability lets him tame beasts. Do not rush past opportunities to use it merely because they sit away from the most direct route to the next objective. Check the surrounding map before committing your free-time movement and plan a route that allows Cai to reach worthwhile beasts efficiently. His unique interaction cannot simply be delegated to another Flame Lord's group later. It's also important to learn what types of bait work for the different types of animals: Ornius and Magonius like fish. Horses and pegasi like plants. Bau like meat. Theodora's Path — Build Plans Around Resources Theodora's map ability is tied to battalion recruitment, which can then be used to harvest great amounts of resources. This makes her route a fantastic opportunity to hoard as many resources as you can, especially rarer ones. Use her recruitment and resource-collection skills liberally. This will be fantastic in Part 3, where you will need a great amount of both common and rare resources to complete the tasks ahead of you. Dietrich's Path — Hunt Special Enemies Dietrich can obtain new abilities by hunting special enemies. Treat these targets as progression opportunities, not ordinary optional encounters. Look for available hunts, given to you in Dagsion, before advancing the main objective and go fight them as soon as possible. The reward expands Dietrich's options, which can then be taught to your entire army. This makes it so that even the arts that Dietrich cannot use himself are important to learn. Leda's Path — Position Her Songs For Maximum Effect Leda's Blaze Art songs can strengthen several nearby allies at once, so her position often matters as much as the song you choose. Keep her close to the centre of your formation when preparing to use one instead of leaving her at the rear or sending her towards an isolated target. Before activating a song, check its area and move the units you want to affect into range. Try to catch several characters who can immediately capitalize on the buff, especially before a coordinated push or difficult enemy phase. Remember that Blaze Arts cost HP: leave Leda somewhere protected afterwards or keep a healer close enough to restore her. A useful strategy is to place allies within the attack range and then use Leda's skill that increases Defence and Resistance. The result will be easy counter-attacks that take out enemies that do less damage than they'd prefer.
