007 First Light on Switch 2 delayed less than a week after 2026 confirmation

Amid the many announcements from last week’s Nintendo Direct, the Switch 2 port of 007 First Light made an incredibly brief appearance just so developer IO Interactive could assure it was still on track for a 2026 launch after missing its promised summer window. Something must’ve changed in the last six days, though, because now IO has admitted that the Switch 2 port needs further polishing and will no longer be ready for this year. Instead, the goal is to launch the port in March 2027, 10 months after 007 First Light’s May 2026 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. ‘To ensure we deliver the quality of experience players expect, we have made the decision to delay the release to March 2027, with the exact date to be communicated later,’ reads a post on the 007 First Light X account. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. ‘This additional time will go toward polishing the Nintendo Switch 2 performance of the game.’ IO adds that it is ‘thrilled’ with the positive feedback from its public demo at Gamescom last month. Based on footage shared by GameXplain, 007 First Light does already run decently on Nintendo’s hardware, so everything points to it being another top-notch Switch 2 port. Current players can still look forward to further content updates. So far, though, IO has only added two new Tac Sim missions as part of a July update and no dates have been shared for further additions, such as new game plus or the promised mission featuring Lenny Kravitz’s Bawma. This isn’t the only game to be recently delayed either. Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends remake, Rayman Legends Retold, was meant to launch in just a few weeks on October 1 and had even gone gold, meaning it’s considered complete and ready to be shipped off for physical copies to be manufactured. Yet the game has been pushed back by two months and is now scheduled for December 3, which Ubisoft says is so it can ‘take extra time to make sure every detail gets the care it deserves.’ This also means the game won’t be vying for attention in what’s set to be a very busy October. No doubt Ubisoft is avoiding November so as not to risk competing with GTA 6 too. It’s oddly fitting this happened, though, as the original Rayman Legends for the Nintendo Wii U was also delayed despite being finished. The game was originally billed as a Wii U exclusive, but Ubisoft changed its mind and decided to hold the game back until it could launch alongside PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions.
