007 First Light Announces Free DLC On October 1

Developer IO Interactive has a history of extensive post-launch support for its flagship Hitman series, a tradition that is continuing for 007 First Light. The latest announcement from IO confirms that new content is just around the corner, following previous updates that added new TacSim missions, outfits, weapons, and more. The full scope of the new content won't be clear for a couple of days, but a new teaser gives fans enough to kickstart some potentially accurate speculation. The official 007 First Light X account shared a short tease of an upcoming "free DLC," telling players to "Tune in on October 1st." The 13-second video embedded in the post offers a look at a countryside road, starting with the sound of a car approaching at high speeds. The car ultimately passes through the frame too quickly to see clearly, but since we're dealing with Bond here, it seems likely that it's an Aston Martin. An Aston Martin Valhalla is briefly involved in 007 First Light's story campaign, but while Bond gets to take advantage of its gadgets, he never gets to take it out for a proper spin on the road. Although we don't have any details for the free DLC yet, it seems likely that it will finally fulfill this fantasy. At any rate, the answers should arrive on October 1, so fans won't have to wait long to know if they'll be able to get behind the wheel. Assuming that the DLC does involve driving the Valhalla, there are also plenty of lingering questions about its overall scope. It could be anything from a detached driving sim mode to a proper story mission that just happens to involve a stretch on the road, and either of those two possibilities would likely garner some excitement. Of course, the best part of all of this is that it's free, letting players squeeze a little more value out of their $69.99 purchase. While there are plenty of different ways to tackle 007 First Light's challenges, it isn't quite as richly replayable as the Hitman games, meaning that plenty of owners will be booting up the game for the first time in months when the DLC drops. In the meantime, those with particularly capable hardware on hand can try out the Path Tracing update to add even more realism to the lighting. The update shipped earlier this month and received some performance hotfixes a few days ago, although it will still require a monster PC. 007 First Light is just the start of Bond's story, and hopefully, its own journey will continue for months or years to come.
