Zelensky: Ukraine Has Not Received $16 Billion in Previously Agreed US Aid

Ukraine has not received $16 billion in US assistance that had been agreed upon under previous arrangements, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. In an interview with the Ukrainian broadcaster TSN, Zelensky said Ukraine must continue pushing for additional US defense support regardless of how such demands are perceived abroad.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. He stressed that Ukraine had no choice but to strengthen its defenses for as long as Russia’s full-scale war continues. He added that Kyiv needed to adapt its approach to Washington following changes in the US political landscape and consolidate existing bipartisan support. “Ukraine needs to move toward a new political infrastructure in the US – and it must do so quickly. We need to consolidate the bipartisan support we already have. Given the shift in the balance of power, we must structure our dialogue correctly,” he said. Zelensky added that the changing political environment could improve Ukraine’s chances of securing further US assistance. He also called on Ukrainian officials to raise the issue of previously agreed funding that had not been delivered. “We must raise the issue that, out of previous agreements and decisions, 16 billion was withheld and not provided to Ukraine,” Zelensky said. “We are grateful for everything that has been given, but Ukraine should, at the very least, fight to secure these funds,” he added. The president acknowledged that Kyiv’s insistence on military assistance could cause irritation in Washington but said Ukraine could not afford to remain silent. “Ukraine must fight – let no one in the US take offense,” he said. Zelensky also said European leaders had advised Ukrainian officials not to apologize for requesting military assistance, adding that securing support was essential to the country’s defense.
