The Legend of Zelda feels like it's absolutely everywhere as a franchise right now, as it celebrates 40 years since first debuting on to our screens back in the mid 1980s. A lot of the news has been specifically released to tie in with that anniversary, including the release of the Ocarina of Time Remake, which is set to transport us back to our childhoods when it drops in November. One thing we still don't know within all of that is what exactly Nintendo and their studio partners are planning for the next main game in the single-player series. Well, one thing we do now know is that one of its most consistent recent collaborators will continue to be involved moving forward, and that could give us plenty of information about what the next game is going to be like. Over on Bluesky, the profile Nintendo Patents Watch shared a post after Monolith Soft published their own series of interviews about their work on The Legend of Zelda. In total, they released three conversations with different portions of their team, where they go into detail about everything they contributed to the development of 2023s Tears of the Kingdom. In fairness, they give plenty of insight into all the processes that went into the game, including how they modeled many of the characters, and the inspiration that went into their specific appearances in Tears of the Kingdom. As interesting as that is, it's actually another section of the interview where we get a bit more about the potential plan moving forward: "Moving forward, as a member of the team creating the world of "The Legend of Zelda" with Nintendo, we (Monolith Soft) will continue to develop games that pursue even more "new surprises and emotions." Though I'm sure Monolith Soft could turn their collective experience to just about any game, the news that they are working on the world of Legend of Zelda moving forward does line up with the rumors that have been circulating for some time. Specifically, several insiders have previously cited that the next game in the series will follow in the same vein as the previous two. That means it will be set in the same world, at around the same time, with the art style that blew so many away with the original release of Breath of the Wild. That will come as good news to many, but there is a significant portion of the community that feels it's time to move on to something new, and continuation of the status quo will likely come as something of a disappointment to them. In any case, whatever Nintendo does have planned for The Legend of Zelda next, it likely won't be too long before we get to hear about it. It has been a few years since the last game, and it's past due, though the developer is likely to give both Ocarina of Time and the new movie time to breathe, before breaking cover in the middle of next year.
