Sign in to your TheGamer account The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has admitted that, despite very positive previews, he’s “nervous” about releasing the Ocarina of Time remake. Although Grand Theft Auto 6 is undeniably the biggest remaining game of 2026 (and really, of all time), it’s got some fair competition in the form of Nintendo’s long-awaited Ocarina of Time remake. Even as a remake of a game that we all know like the back of our hand, Ocarina of Time is shaping up to be a massive hit, likely the biggest the Switch 2 has seen so far. A new Zelda was always going to do well sales-wise, but previews for the Ocarina of Time remake have been incredibly positive and make it look certain that the game is going to be a hit. Even with all of that in mind, series producer Eiji Aonuma says that he’s “nervous” about the release and how it’s going to go down. Zelda Producer Is Nervous About Launching Ocarina Of Time Remake He’s Already Looking Forward To Thinking About The Next Game, Though As reported by My Nintendo News, Japan Today recently had the chance to chat with Eiji Aonuma about the impending release of the Ocarina of Time remake. During the interview, Aonuma shared how he’s feeling about the remake, as well as briefly discussing the future of Zelda as a whole. Aonuma noted that he’s “nervous about releasing the remake of Ocarina” because he doesn’t know “how it’s going to turn out”, something that he can’t stop thinking about. This is a bit of a surprise considering how positively the game has been received so far, but it does show just how invested Aonuma is in bringing such a beloved Zelda game back. Outside of his nerves, though, Aonuma says that the success of Ocarina of Time’s remake is thanks to the younger developers on the team, and how they thought to “adapt the game in the best possible way”. Aonuma is “very interested” to see what those developers imagine for future Zelda games, noting that he’s excited to “think together” about the next game in the series. I guess that's our first sign that the next Zelda isn't quite Nintendo's focus right now, which makes sense with how long people have been asking for an Ocarina remake. I personally have no doubt that the Ocarina of Time remake is going to be a big success, but it’s worth noting that expectations are going to be incredibly high after Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, so I can understand part of Aonuma’s nerves. At least it’s looking like he’ll have had nothing to worry about.
