Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake Official New Teaser Just Debunked A Controversial Rumor

Published Jul 21, 2026, 5:00 PM EDT Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot. Thus far, the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is quite bizarre and mysterious. It was announced less than a couple of months ago at the June 2026 Nintendo Direct with an alarming release window of 2026, and all we know about it is that it’ll feature a different art direction (unsurprisingly, as there will be almost three decades between the original and the remake). At this point, fans are simply waiting to hear more about the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which is arguably one of the only games that could hope to compete with Rockstar’s blockbuster release of Grand Theft Auto 6. In the meantime, we may be able to rule out at least one rumor about the remake that would’ve seen it take a drastically different form than how fans might remember the 1998 Nintendo 64 classic. The Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake Will Not Be Split In Two A white-hot and divisive Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake rumor previously claimed that it would stretch the original game’s story into two games, with one depicting child Link’s journey and the other depicting adult Link’s journey. This is a neat idea in theory, since each game could be quite different depending on how drastic the changes in gameplay are between child and adult Link, but it’d be a massive and polarizing change to the structure of the original game, which is beloved for a reason. Thankfully, X user Genki shared a newly discovered slogan for the remake, “Reborn across time,” which seemingly implies that it will be one game, not two. Based on the slogan, it sounds like players will still be traversing Link’s seven-year leaps forward and backward in time by retrieving or forfeiting the Master Sword in the Temple of Time. If so, the full game should be released later this year, without fans having to wait however long it might be until its second half/installment comes out. “Reborn across time” also cheekily refers to how The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a rebirth for the game itself, 28 years later. Let’s Be Honest, That Rumor Was Always Dumb The rumor was always a tough one to comprehend, given how The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time periodically has players going back and forth between child and adult Link. For instance, this rumor suggests that the ending of the first game would have child Link either first wielding the Master Sword and Ganondorf laughing maniacally, or go and do everything that he does during the events of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time before ever turning into an adult. There are probably gamers who’d be interested in the idea of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s remake following the same template as Final Fantasy VII Remake’s trilogy situation, where lore and characters are recontextualized in a sort of spiritual sequel/successor rather than it merely being a faithful adaptation of the game. However, we have no indication, besides rumors, that it would ever be reimagined in such a bold way, and “Reborn across time” may put fans at ease about it being the singular game that we’re now highly anticipating in 2026. Either way, fans will always have the original Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to reminisce about and revisit, even if the remake doesn’t turn out to be their cup of tea. Of course, that’s the risk that every remake of an iconic game runs, especially if it strives to be different from the original. It’ll be interesting to see how many fans scrutinize every aspect of it, and it might not be long until we learn what approach it’ll take. The remake is a brave new endeavor for Nintendo, potentially with the goal of having it synergize with the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie, and both entries in this magical, storied franchise will hopefully bode well for what its future will look like when the dust settles. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is scheduled to be released for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
